Taking Charge

This article originally appeared in Chevrolet's New Roads online magazine At home, at work, around town, or out on the open road, Chevrolet is committed to making electric ownership make sense — for everyone. That starts with making range anxiety a thing of the past. The first step in making electric vehicles for everyone is making the vehicles. The next is to make owning an electric easy. “We want to take away any anxieties associated with electric vehicle charging and how the customer experiences them,” says Dalya Aboona, global electric vehicle ecosystem and charging experience assistant manager at GM. The answer? Easy access to Level 2 home charging, plus Ultium Charge 360 — a charging ecosystem that integrates charging networks, the myChevrolet Mobile App, † and other products and services. That means access to more than 100,000 charge points, as well as the digital tools to seamlessly tap into the power and convenience of that network. ULTIUM PowerUP CHARGER † PRODUCED BY GM A Level 2 home charger sold directly by GM and your Chevrolet EV dealer, with base and premium models for different charging needs. Home Charging Karla Fausto had her 2020 Chevrolet Bolt EV for more than a year before she decided to upgrade to a Level 2 home charger. “On the days I drive the most, I drive 60 miles total, so Level 1 charging met my needs,” she says. “It wasn’t a problem for us to string out a cord and have my car plugged in.” Fausto, a Philadelphia-area nurse, does the bulk of her charging at home. However, after driving her Bolt EV, her fiancé decided he wanted to get an electric vehicle as well. With two electrics, simply plugging into the standard wall outlet wouldn’t be a practical solution. An active social media group for Bolt EV owners helped Fausto settle on a Level 2 charger. The next step was understanding what it took to install the hardware. There, the forums were less helpful. “There’s a lot of people who will give you electrical engineer–level knowledge, and then a lot that say, ‘All I know is my car drinks electrons,’” she jokes. As Fausto’s story suggests, navigating a relatively new technology can be difficult. Chevrolet and General Motors knew they needed to simplify the home charging process, including installation. MANAGE YOUR ELECTRIC LIFESTYLE Energy Assist in the myChevrolet Mobile App † streamlines management of your charging needs and environment, helping you find compatible charging stations, check your battery status, plan routes, and more. Learn more about Energy Assist and download the app. First, eligible customers who purchase or lease a 2022 or 2023 Bolt EV or Bolt EUV can get standard installation of a 240-volt Level 2 charging outlet, installed by Qmerit. † The offer applies to homes that meet the criteria for the standard installation, Alex Patten, GM assistant manager of charging solutions, says. For other owners who do not meet the standard installation requirements, Chevrolet provides a credit of up to $1,000 for a custom installation, plus up to $250 for the proper local or state permits. If you have purchased a 2022 or 2023 Bolt EV or EUV and it simply isn’t possible to install a charger where you live, Chevrolet will provide a $500 credit † to use at EVgo public chargers, a large nationwide network of public fast chargers. IT TAKES TWO SECONDS TO PLUG IT INTO THE WALL. THEN YOU GO TO SLEEP, AND IT’S CHARGED WHEN YOU WAKE UP. KARLA FAUSTO To answer questions before, during, or after a purchase, Chevrolet has added new online resources. “Customers can visit EV Live or reach out to our EV concierge team to have all of their questions answered about home installation,” says Patten. Now that Fausto has had a charger installed in her garage, she loves the convenience of Level 2 home charging. “It takes two seconds to plug it into the wall,” she says. “Then you go to sleep, and it’s charged when you wake up.” Public Charging, Near or Far When you need gas, you get gas. Typically, you don’t think about where the next station is. Between stops, you hope for as much efficiency as you can get, but it probably isn’t something you worry about. Dalya Aboona gets that. “My background is mechanical engineering,” she says. “I spent a lot of time working on engines and fuel economy.” DALYA ABOONA Global EV Ecosystem & Charging Experience Assistant Manager Aboona and her team look at the big picture related to removing anxiety about charging, focusing on home, workplace, and public spaces. Today, Aboona is General Motors’ global electric vehicle ecosystem and charging experience assistant manager, where she is part of a dedicated team of over 45 people laser-focused on making electric vehicle ownership an anxiety-free experience — whether you’re at work, at home, or on the road. Primarily that means focusing on charging, and especially public charging. The team’s experience suggests the breadth of possibilities as charging infrastructure expands. “We’ve got a diverse team comprised of business, finance, engineers, marketing, and public policy, all working together to craft the best solution,” Aboona says. In many cases, they’re starting where there’s nothing to work with. “It’s like an empty piece of land,” she says. “First the foundation is poured, then the structure, and by the end it’s a functional house.” Suddenly, workplaces are installing chargers and networks are being built, which has opened up access to more than 100,000 charge points — and mobile apps make everything make sense. “We want to make the process seamless for car owners,” Aboona says. “Do you think about how you’re going to charge your cellphone? No, you just plug it in and it takes care of itself.”

General Motors and Microvast to Develop Specialized EV Battery Separator

Collaboration includes construction of new U.S. separator facility New separator technology will aim to improve safety, charging, battery life GM named to U.S. Department of Energy Battery500 Consortium General Motors, parent company of Chevrolet, and battery manufacturer Microvast will work together to develop specialized EV battery separator technology and build a new separator plant in the U.S., which is expected to create hundreds of new jobs. This work will be supported by a $200 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy's Battery Materials Processing and Battery Manufacturing initiative. Separators are safety-critical EV battery components that serve to separate the anode from the cathode, allowing for ion transfer. GM will contribute its cutting-edge separator and coating technology to the collaboration with Microvast. The companies will work together to develop new separator technology that can help improve EV safety, charging and battery life. This advanced technology is designed to enhance thermal stability of EV batteries and work with nearly all types of lithium-ion cells, including graphite, silicon, and lithium-metal anodes and nickel-rich, cobalt-free, lithium iron phosphate-type and high-voltage cathodes. "This collaboration with Microvast supports our ongoing efforts to develop a North American-focused EV supply chain and help put everyone in an EV," said Kent Helfrich, GM chief technology officer and vice president of Research and Development. "It will also provide us with pioneering separator technology that can be used in future Ultium batteries, and most importantly, supports our continuing commitment to safety." “We expect the safety advantages of our innovative, highly thermally stable polyaramid separators to transform high-energy lithium-ion battery development and drive significant value for the industry," said Dr. Wenjuan Mattis, chief technology officer at Microvast. In addition, the Department of Energy has further recognized GM's battery expertise by selecting the company for its Battery500 Consortium, which is being awarded $75 million for a second phase of research. Led by the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, the consortium is a team of battery experts from national laboratories, academia and industry working to develop more reliable, affordable, longer range and higher performance EV batteries. GM is the only auto manufacturer selected for the consortium and will work with other members to accelerate development of high-energy, rechargeable lithium metal batteries.

Super Cruise after expansion

Expanding Access to Hands-Free Driving

GM is committed to expanding access to advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), bringing these technologies to more vehicles on more roads, while prioritizing safe deployment. We want to help our customers expand their driving experience with these systems, which is why we’re laser-focused on testing, validating and improving our ADAS technologies to provide our customers with advanced features and systems — like the industry’s first true hands-free advanced driver assistance system, Super Cruise. A key piece of Super Cruise’s accessibility is its road network, the compatible mapped highways where customers can engage the hands-free system. In August 2022, the company announced plans to double the Super Cruise road network to more than 400,000 miles (644,000 kilometres) of roads in the U.S. and Canada on select vehicles. Before Super Cruise expansion After Super Cruise expansion The first vehicles to receive this expansion will be full-size SUVs built on Oct. 3, 2022 or later, arriving in customers’ hands starting in mid-November 2022. Hundreds of thousands of additional miles of roads will be unlocked for customers who ordered the following vehicles with Super Cruise: 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe – High Country and Premier trims 2023 Chevrolet Suburban – High Country and Premier trims 2023 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV and Escalade-V 2023 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate For existing Super Cruise vehicles built on GM’s VIP electrical architecture, GM will expand the road network starting in the coming months via over-the-air (OTA) updates at no additional charge. OTA software updates can provide more enhancements over time for eligible vehicles. Through the connectivity of our vehicles, OTA updates are automatically downloaded and installed with the simple push of a button. Super Cruise is coming to 22 vehicles globally by the end of 2023. The turbo contributes to excellent on-demand power, particularly for passing maneuvers and on-ramp acceleration. Modern and purposeful design Longer, lower and wider than the current model, the 2024 Trax introduces an athletic, muscular design inspired by the Chevrolet Blazer. “The bold exterior and tech-forward interior design of the all-new Trax redefines what an entry-level vehicle can be,” said Phil Zak, executive design director, Global Chevrolet. “It demonstrates that modern, stylish design doesn’t have to come at a premium.” At the front, sleek horizontal lines emphasize the vehicle’s width and are designed around the lines of the iconic Chevy bowtie at the center of the grille, which flow outward to the slim, Blazer-inspired headlamps that feature all-new LED lighting elements. Chevy-signature high-eye LED daytime running lamps make the Trax more visible, day or night. A sleeker side profile is enhanced by a 4-inch-lower (101 mm) overall height than the current model, while strong “shoulders” in the body contribute to a taut, muscular presence and strong stance. 2023 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 Bison

Ready to Roam: Chevrolet Introduces Silverado ZR2 Bison

In collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles, Chevrolet releases first-ever Silverado ZR2 Bison special edition designed to bolster the truck’s off-road capability including rocker protection, unique skid plates, custom front bumper and more. Also new for select trims in the 2023 model year, the popular 3.0L Duramax Diesel gets fine-tuned for more power with a GM-estimated max horsepower of 305 and max torque of 495 lb-ft. Building off the success of the recent Silverado ZR2 launch, Chevrolet introduced the first-ever special edition Silverado ZR2 Bison in collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), a premium off-road aftermarket manufacturer. This truck was uniquely tuned to unlock new heights in off-road capability for customers seeking overlanding adventures. “Our most recent collaboration with AEV resulted in the much-acclaimed Colorado ZR2 Bison. We’re thrilled to team up again to bring customers Chevrolet’s next chapter of off-road dominance, this time on Silverado,” said Scott Bell, Chevrolet vice president. “The 2023 Silverado ZR2 Bison unlocks the pinnacle of the nameplate’s off-road capability.” AEV has a strong track record for providing accessories that excel in overland expedition environments. The 2019 Colorado ZR2 Bison quickly became the most popular special edition package offered with the Colorado ZR2. Similar to the Colorado ZR2 Bison development, AEV and GM engineers and designers collaborated on the tooling and design to bring forth the Silverado ZR2 Bison with unique overlanding componentry. Profile view of Silverado ZR2 Bison in wooded area. “The Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 Bison is the ultimate half-ton truck for backcountry adventures,” said AEV CEO and Founder Dave Harriton. “The Silverado ZR2 Bison checks all the boxes — robust stamped steel bumpers, complete underbody protection, a factory-tuned off-road suspension, and locking differentials front and rear. We are confident off-road enthusiasts are going to love this truck.” When compared to the 2022 Silverado ZR2, the Bison special edition is expected to feature improved stats for overlanding adventure. The front approach angle increases to an estimated 32.5 degrees (compared to 31.8 degrees). The departure angle improves to an estimated 23.4 degrees (compared to 23.3 degrees). The trucks are expected to share the same ground clearance at 11.2 inches. This truck reaches new levels of off-road confidence also in part due to the high-quality steel integrated in the AEV bumpers and underbody protection. The AEV-stamped steel front and rear bumpers are constructed of 3-millimeter-thick steel and are powder and e-coated. The press-hardened steel used for the underbody skid plates is three-and-a-half times stronger than an equivalent cold-stamped high-strength steel plate and provides incredible resistance to underbody damage. Bolstering the truck’s resume for off-road strength, the Silverado ZR2 Bison comes standard with: AEV stamped steel front and rear bumpers with heavy duty recovery points and integrated step pads. The front bumper is compatible with an available winch accessory Five unique hot-stamped boron steel skid plates providing protection for the front, rear differential, transfer case and fuel tank Steel rocker panel protection A three-piece durable steel front bumper with integrated black, vertical front tow hooks Exclusive gloss black 18-inch AEV wheels paired with 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires Bison customers will continue to enjoy ZR2’s standard features: Standard 6.2L V-8 engine with 10-speed automatic transmission delivers 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque to power through tough terrains Multimatic 40-millimeter DSSV spool-valve dampers, which feature: Three separate spool valves to control damping Three connected chambers for fluid flow Uniquely tuned springs that, with the Multimatic dampers, increase maximum front and rear suspension travel, compared to the Silverado Trail Boss Front and rear e-lockers Specific off-road chassis and suspension calibrations, including Terrain Mode, which allows one-pedal 1 rock crawling The Silverado ZR2 Bison exclusive body-color grille bar provides contrast to the black grille design and prominently features the signature ZR2 badge on the front of the truck to the right of the iconic Chevy “flow-tie.” On the rear, the bold black matte finish on the standard Multi-Flex tailgate is unique to the Bison design and allows the centered Chevrolet bowtie to stand out. Tastefully integrated into the design, Silverado ZR2 Bison customers will enjoy discovering nods to the AEV collaboration throughout the interior and exterior of the truck, including the Bison decal on the side outer box and the AEV badge featured on the front headrests and all-weather floor liners. The Silverado ZR2 Bison is expected to start production in early 2023 with an MRSP of $78,490 with dealer freight charge included 2. 2023 Silverado 3.0L Diesel Duramax Delivers More Power, Capability Also new for the 2023 model year, the refined second-generation 3.0L inline-six turbo-diesel Duramax is expected to deliver additional power and torque. This engine is primed to deliver a sizable increase in power and torque for diesel customers. The max power is 305 hp, a 10% increase (277 hp in 22MY), and max torque 495 lb-ft, a 7.6% increase (460 lb-ft in MY22), thanks to several key component upgrades for optimum performance, including: New steel pistons with a revised combustion bowl Retuned turbo compressor New fuel injectors Improved temperature control features “These improvements to the popular 3.0L Diesel Duramax build on the already advanced design of the first-generation engine,” said John Barta, assistant chief engineer of diesels engines. “We often hear customers express their satisfaction with the outstanding fuel economy and smooth quiet power of the current diesel engine, so we can’t wait for them to experience this advanced engine made possible by the continued design evolution and advances in engine technologies.” This refined diesel engine will be available on Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ and High Country, and will continue to be exclusively paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission for retail customers. The Duramax engine will continue to be assembled at GM’s Flint Engine Operations in Michigan 3. and will be available on select trims of the 2023 Silverado 1500 by the end of this year.

All-Electric 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV Reimagines Customer Choice, Performance, Design

Lineup offers trim, drive system and range options, and the first electric SS performance model Chevrolet today revealed the all-electric 2024 Blazer EV, expanding the brand’s growing EV portfolio, making EV ownership more accessible, and driving Chevy into the heart of the growing midsize electric crossover segment. Multiple distinct trims, multiple range options — Including an available GM-estimated range of up to 320 miles on a full charge — and available front-, rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations offer customers more choices, and a seamless EV experience designed to complement virtually every lifestyle. Those choices include available 1LT, 2LT, RS and Chevy’s first-ever electric SS performance model, along with a pursuit-rated Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) model for police fleet applications. https://www.youtube.com/embed/6icyq1lgH6g “The 2024 Blazer EV sets a new tone for electric SUVs, with options and intuitive technologies that help position Chevy for leadership in one of the fastest-growing EV segments,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. “Along with the all-new Silverado EV and Equinox EV coming next year, we are making great strides in offering more choices for zero tailpipe-emissions vehicles — choices that make switching to an EV easier than ever.” The Blazer EV is based on GM’s innovative Ultium Platform with athletic styling that elevates the heralded design established in 2018 by the gas-powered Chevrolet Blazer, and performance cues inspired by the Camaro and Corvette. With design and engineering developed to live up to the legacy of the iconic Super Sport performance designation, the Blazer EV SS offers customers the most powerful experience in the lineup. It features an exclusive performance AWD propulsion configuration designed to produce up to 557 horsepower and up to 648 lb-ft of torque, and unique WOW (Wide Open Watts) mode enabling 0-60 sprints of approximately less than 4 seconds (based on GM estimates). “The Blazer EV SS has the soul of a true sports car,” said Bell. “And while it represents the pinnacle of performance for Chevy’s EV lineup, all models offer stirring capabilities that will surprise and delight true performance devotees.” Download Infographic Additional Blazer EV highlights include: Driving range options up to an available GM-estimated 320 miles on a full charge (depending on the trim) 11.5 kW level 2 (AC) charging and standard DC public fast-charging capability of up to 190 kW, depending on the model, which enables approximately 78 miles of range to be added in 10 minutes, per GM estimates Large, intuitive 17.7-inch-diagonal customizable infotainment touchscreen Full LED exterior lighting, with choreographed walk-up/walk-away animation on RS and SS models Beautiful, spacious and sustainably crafted cabin made with soft-touch materials Available Super Cruise hands-free driving technology for compatible roads Advanced safety features intended to inspire confidence, including Reverse Automatic Braking 6 and Advanced Park Assist 6 DESIGN DETAILS The all-electric 2024 Blazer EV’s innovative, dynamic and athletic styling is infused with Chevrolet’s performance DNA to create an expressive design unlike anything else in the segment. “The Blazer EV’s design evokes the same sort of emotional response as Chevy’s performance cars,” said Phil Zak, executive director, Chevrolet Design. “There’s true SUV functionality, but inside and out, it has the sort of passionate proportions and feel that make you want to slide behind the wheel and explore what’s beyond the horizon. It’s a vehicle that looks great from every angle and beckons you to drive.” Each of the Blazer EV’s trims share a muscular, athletic profile enabled by the Ultium Platform, including taut, converging body lines. They convey motion, while prominent front-fender extractor vents are a nod to Chevy’s motorsports legacy. The distinctive trims take on their own characters. The LT features a monochromatic appearance and standard 19-inch wheels, while the RS strikes a sportier presence with a black grille and other black accents, along with standard 21-inch wheels. The SS serves up the most aggressive aesthetic, with a unique front grille, two-tone color scheme featuring a black roof and A-pillars that complement the Blazer EV’s body color pallet, standard 22-inch wheels and more. Designers elevated the Blazer EV’s presence further on the RS and SS with a bold, dual-element LED exterior lighting signature that also has choreographed lighting sequences, which activate when the driver approaches or walks away. The effect features a full light bar and illuminated Bowtie emblem on the front. These elements are incorporated into the lighting sequences. The front lighting also conveys the state of charge while the vehicle charges. A sequential orchestration of the lighting increases in speed and intensity as the battery’s charge increases. Inside, a refined cabin also makes a modern design statement. Like the exterior, many of its elements draw inspiration from Chevrolet’s sports cars and performance heritage, such as a flat-bottom steering wheel for the RS and SS trims and sculpted vents inspired by turbines. An expansive, 17.7-inch-diagonal color touchscreen is the focal point of the cabin and the command center for the vehicle’s infotainment system and additional features. A large 11-inch-diagonal color Driver Information Center in the instrument cluster complements the central touchscreen. Additional interior highlights include: Two-row layout with ample spaciousness and storage options, thanks to a flat floor enabled by packaging of the Ultium Platform Standard ambient lighting with personalization function on RS and SS trims Unique RS and SS trim and design cues, including blue and red contrasting stitching on the RS, and sueded microfiber seating on the SS, with Adrenaline Red seating surfaces and available Argon Orange accents Heated and ventilated front seats on RS and SS, along with heated rear outboard seating positions that are standard on SS and available on RS Download Infographic TECHNOLOGY FOR EVERY LIFESTYLE The Blazer EV features Chevy’s latest charging, infotainment and driver-assistance technologies that work together holistically, offering customers greater convenience, comfort and confidence when it comes to making the transition to an all-electric vehicle. It all starts when the driver enters the Blazer EV — there’s no button to push to start the vehicle. With hands-free start, the driver simply pushes the brake pedal after closing the door and the Blazer EV is ready to go. The key fob authorizes the hands-free start system. “Transitioning to an electric vehicle is seamless with the Blazer EV,” said Martin Hayes, Blazer EV chief engineer. “Every element and feature have been designed to help customers take full control of their driving experience and enjoy every minute of it.” Technology highlights include: Powered-opening charge port door: It features a powered opening when the door is pushed Navigation to charging stations and route planning: Through the MyChevy app, this feature helps locate and plot routes to charging stations Regen Braking: This feature can convert the kinetic energy of the vehicle’s forward momentum into electricity that’s stored in the battery pack to maximize the driving range. It also includes One-Pedal Driving, which can slow the vehicle to a full stop, using only the accelerator pedal Available presence-based liftgate: For convenience, the tailgate can open hands-free when the key fob is recognized by the sensors at the rear of the vehicle Available Super Cruise: The industry’s first true hands-free driver-assistance technology, allowing drivers to travel hands-free on compatible roads across the U.S. and Canada The Blazer EV also offers Chevrolet’s latest driver-assistance technologies, including Reverse Automatic Braking and Advanced Park Assist. They complement the standard Chevy Safety Assist suite of technologies, with Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, Following Distance Indicator, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning and IntelliBeam. A major enabler of the Blazer EV’s technologies is Ultifi, GM’s new end-to-end vehicle software platform. It separates the vehicle’s software from the hardware to enable the frequent and seamless delivery of software-defined features, apps and services to customers over the air. Ultifi will allow customers to continue to upgrade and personalize their vehicle like never before, as improvements and new features become available over time. SPIRITED, CONFIDENT PERFORMANCE The Blazer EV channels the power of the Ultium Platform, which is the foundation of GM’s EV strategy and the driver of the company’s vision for a zero-emissions future. The all-new body architecture supports the multiple range options and the three available drive systems: front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive. “The flexibility of the Ultium Platform enabled our design and engineering teams to develop the Blazer EV to offer an unprecedented range of performance and driving characteristics,” said Hayes. Additionally, the low, wide proportions of the Ultium Platform and the structural positioning of the battery pack, contribute to a comparatively low center of gravity that enhances driving stability. And regardless of the propulsion system, independent front and rear suspensions offer exceptional ride comfort and responsiveness. The SS takes all the Blazer EV’s performance capabilities to their zenith, with unique features designed to help maximize the Ultium Platform’s capabilities. When it comes to charging performance, the Blazer EV delivers with an 11.5 kW onboard AC charging module for home charging and public charging, along with high-speed DC public fast-charging capability of up to 190 kW, enabling recharging of up to 78 miles of range to be added in approximately 10 minutes. Owners also have access to Ultium Charge 360, GM’s holistic approach to EV charging, designed to simplify the overall charging experience, including access to more than 100,000 publicly available charging points in the U.S. and Canada. BLAZER EV ON THE JOB — AND ON PATROL In addition to the “civilian” models of the new Blazer EV, Chevrolet will offer a specially developed Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) models. Based on the Blazer SS model, the Blazer EV PPV will have the largest Ultium battery in the lineup and will be available in rear wheel drive or with a dual motor all-wheel drive system. The PPV will use the Blazer SS high performance front Brembo brakes to help ensure short stopping distances. The purpose-built Blazer EV PPV model features a police specific interior designed for police officers with ample room to accommodate emergency equipment and gear. “The possibilities for the Blazer EV’s commercial and law enforcement applications are almost endless,” said Ed Peper, vice president of GM Fleet. “Along with zero-tailpipe-emissions performance, it reduces the number and frequency of certain maintenance requirements typically associated with fleet vehicles." In addition, the available trims offer different range and content suited for additional fleet and commercial customers, such as pharmaceutical, rental and others. "GM Fleet has long provided customers with great products and services, an exceptional customer experience and innovative solutions to meet their unique business needs,” said Ed Peper, vice president of GM Fleet. “We’re excited to launch the Silverado EV, providing customers with a true work-capable truck to help them begin the transition to an electric fleet and assist them in achieving their own sustainability goals.” Ultium-powered propulsion The Silverado EV harnesses the power of the Ultium Platform, which is the foundation of GM’s EV strategy and the driver of the company’s vision for a zero-emissions future. “The Ultium Platform enabled our design and engineering teams to start from a clean slate and create a pickup with impressive performance and capability,” said Nichole Kraatz, Silverado EV chief engineer. “The result is a truly impressive testament to the creativity and innovation our teams can bring to market with speed and at scale.” A new body architecture, which efficiently leverages the available 24-module Ultium battery pack as a part of the fundamental structure, enables the vehicle’s impressive range. This structural design integrates the capability Silverado customers have come to expect from a full-size pickup in terms of strength, durability and performance, while also providing a more comfortable, confident ride both on- and off-road. Additionally, the chassis is designed with independent front and rear suspensions, with power transferred to the available 24-inch wheels on RST via front- and rear-drive motors that compose the e4WD system. Automatic Adaptive Air Suspension enables the vehicle to be raised or lowered up to 2 inches (50 mm). Four-wheel steer capability reduces the turning radius at lower speeds for greater maneuverability in parking lots, and enhances handling and stability at higher speeds, particularly when trailering. The RST and WT models also come with Tow/Haul mode, trailer hitch provisions, and an integrated trailer brake controller and Hitch Guidance. The RST also includes Chevy’s Advanced Trailering System. Phenomenal performance The RST and WT feature public DC fast charging capabilities of up to 350kW enabling approximately 100 miles of range to be added in 10 minutes based on GM estimates. When combined with the available accessory power bar, the Silverado EV’s PowerBase charging system offers up to 10 outlets, to provide a total of 10.2kW of all-electric power for countless worksite or recreational needs, including powering your home, with the required equipment. The Silverado EV is also capable of charging another EV using the available accessory charge cord, sharing its power in times of need. With the growing North American network of chargers and the Energy Assist feature in the myChevrolet Mobile App, drivers can create energy-efficient route planning even while trailering. RST owners also have access to Ultium Charge 360, GM’s holistic approach to EV charging, which is designed to simplify the overall charging experience, including access to more than 100,000 publicly available charging points in the U.S. and Canada. WT customers have access to Ultium Charge 360 Fleet Service, which offers one of the industry’s most comprehensive charging solutions for businesses, whether drivers take their vehicles home or return to a central depot. Designed for performance and functionality Inside and out, the Silverado EV RST and WT are thoughtfully designed for functional flexibility. “We had no constraints when it came to designing the Silverado EV with dramatic style and flexible utility because we didn’t need to work around a traditional propulsion system,” said Phil Zak, executive director of Chevrolet Design. “The Ultium Platform allowed us to redefine what it means to offer expansive new storage and utility possibilities.” Exterior proportions and surfacing convey the truck’s capability and athletic performance. The front-end design has been sculpted to efficiently direct air down the body side, significantly reducing drag and turbulence. As a result, the Silverado EV WT is estimated to have one of the lowest drag coefficients of any available production full-size pickup truck, which helps enable the impressive range. The Silverado EV will be offered exclusively in Crew Cab models, with a shorter front overhang that gives the truck a more aggressive stance, more spaciousness and enhances forward downvision. The second row is pushed rearward, meaning passengers over 6 feet tall will be comfortable no matter where they sit. Customizable first row storage on both RST and WT models makes the most of the interior space and provides functional solutions for a variety of customer needs. The eTrunk – a lockable, weatherproof compartment in the front of the vehicle – provides enough space to fit a large hardside suitcase and a multitude of accessory options for both fleet and retail customers to load gear based on the unique needs of the customer. The RST’s modular console features a capacity of just over 7 gallons, meaning a lunch cooler can easily fit inside. The RST features a fixed-glass roof, which offers expansive visibility, increased headroom and an enhanced experience for both front and rear passengers. On the RST, the storage capacity of the 5-foot-11-inch bed is maximized thanks to the innovative available Multi-Flex Midgate, which provides just over 9 feet of storage between the cab and the tailgate when the Midgate is open. A 40/60 second row seat offers four configurations that allow users to haul gear or equipment while still accommodating a passenger in the second row. With the addition of the available Multi-Flex Tailgate the Silverado EV RST enables up to 10 feet, 10 inches of load floor and storage capability. An available tonneau cover allows items such as lumber or a kayak to be loaded into a fully lockable, weatherproof storage compartment. Technologies for today and tomorrow The Silverado EV is packed with the latest technology, including an advanced software system that enables vehicle technologies to evolve over time. As a driver approaches the RST with an enabled cell phone or key fob, a distinctive lighting animation greets them. Upon entering the vehicle, a bold 3D animation appears on the RST’s large 17-inch- diagonal LCD freeform infotainment screen, which is paired with a neighboring 11-inch-diagonal driver instrument display. Together with a driver head-up display with a field of view over 14 inches, a driver can’t ask for more information at their disposal. With new, hands-free start, the vehicle turns on automatically after the driver enters with an enabled device, leaving hands free to buckle up and get on the road. A major enabler of the Silverado EV’s technologies will be the brand’s first application of Ultifi, a new Linux-based software platform. Developed in-house at GM, it separates the vehicle’s software from the hardware to enable rapid and frequent software updates. This will give drivers the opportunity to evolve their vehicles over time, enhancing both the capabilities and accessing cloud services in a flexible and fast way. Production, availability, and reservations The Silverado EV will be assembled with domestically and globally-sourced parts at GM’s Factory ZERO, Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Center — a facility repurposed and retooled with a $2.2-billion investment devoted to EV production. In spring 2023, the Silverado EV will debut a WT model offering GM’s longest range battery with an expected GM-estimated range of over 400 miles on a full charge. In fall 2023, a fully loaded RST First Edition model, also delivering a 400-mile range, will debut with an MSRP of $105,000 + DFC. After production ramps up, Chevrolet will unleash the full Silverado EV portfolio, including WT (with a starting at MSRP of $39,900 + DFC), RST, Trail Boss and more. Customers will have the ability to content the truck across various price ranges, with MSRPs around $50,000, $60,000, $70,000, $80,000 and more, allowing them to choose the truck that meets their capability and pricing needs.
