The 2021 Chevrolet Traverse crossover is refreshed and ready to go!

All of Washington State residents are living through a historic…and uncertain… time. With the Covid-19 pandemic hitting the Burien area hard, most of us are under voluntary quarantine. While it is a challenging time, it can also be a time for opportunity. There are many lists and ideas for parents trying to keep kids busy who are home from school, so how about some other ideas to keep you from going stir crazy.

  • Seahurst Ed Munro Park. Being outside in the fresh air and walking the trails (with plenty of social distancing between other park goers) is a good way to prevent cabin fever.
  • Read classic book! We suggest making a goal of at least 1 book per every 2 weeks of quarantine. Here’s one list of the 100 Classic Books (although there are others); one of our favorites is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and The Art of War by Sun-Tzu.
  • Sign up for free Ivy League college courses! Have you always wanted to learn more about history, literature, computer science, art, or business? You can sign up for free courses from Harvard, Yale, Princeton and more. Get a list of courses here.
  • Learn a new skill. Have you always wanted to learn to crochet, do origami, or make furniture? Quarantine is a great time to devote some time to learning. YouTube is full of great tutorials for pretty much anything!
  • Donate blood! While you can’t technically do this in your home, it could save lives. As long as you exhibit no symptoms, call your local blood bank and find out how you can donate because there is a shortage right now.

What are your ideas if you are staying home for the next couple weeks?

Express offers 24 percent more torque; Silverado Medium Duty offers 23 percent higher gross combined weight rating; GM commerical sales have grown 67 percent since 2013

At The Work Truck Show, Chevrolet announced a new engine for the Express and Low Cab Forward trucks, as well as a host of improvements for the Silverado 4500 HD, 5500 HD and 6500 HD chassis cabs. These changes are expected to fuel further growth for General Motors’ commercial fleet business, which has seen a 67 percent increase in sales since 2013.

“Our commercial fleet sales growth is a result of excellent product and an even better team,” said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president, GM Fleet. “The changes for Express, Low Cab Forward and medium-duty trucks are great examples of the team’s commitment to helping customers with their fleet vehicle needs. With the product changes for 2020, we are on track for another year of strong commercial growth.”

Heavy-Duty Power for Express, Low Cab Forward

For 2021, Express configurations and Low Cab Forward will be available late this summer with a new 6.6L V-8 gas engine. Originally introduced in the all-new 2020 Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD, the direct-injected engine is SAE rated at 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque for the Express. That is 17 percent more horsepower and 24 percent more peak torque than the 6.0L it replaces. The 6.6L output on the Low Cab Forward is 350 horsepower and 425 lb-ft of torque, which is nearly 18 percent more horsepower and 14 percent more peak torque than its outgoing 6.0L.

Whether hauling equipment, supplies or people, the additional output and wider torque band will give drivers more on-demand power and confidence, especially with heavy payloads. Approximately 70 percent of current Express owners opted for the 6.0L V-8 option, and Chevrolet expects this new engine to garner the same or increased take rate.

Demand for Express remains high across passenger, cargo and cutaway configurations, with commercial fleet increasing 12 percent year over year in 2019. Low Cab Forward trucks also had an excellent 2019 with a 109 percent increase in commercial sales year over year, gaining an estimated two points of share in the segment.

Medium-Duty Silverados Offer Customers More

Debuting in 2018, the Silverado 4500 HD, 5500 HD and 6500 HD chassis cab trucks fill an important space in the Chevrolet Commercial portfolio. Continuing to listen to its customers, Chevrolet is bringing a host of updates to medium-duty chassis cabs to further increase performance and flexibility for upfitting:

  • Maximum gross combined weight rating is now up to 37,000 pounds1, offering a 23 percent increase in hauling capability.
  • A new mechanical locking rear axle improves traction by automatically locking when a rear tire slips – such as driving off-road or on slippery surfaces.
  • Longer axle-to-end-of-frame options for the two shortest wheelbases enable longer upfit bodies and increased upfit flexibility.
  • New extended mirror arms, which offer better visibility on wider and longer upfit configurations, are coming soon.
  • New left-hand power take-off capability offers upfitters easy access to the PTO port from either side of the truck.
  • Auxiliary switch bank available with six additional upfit switches2 conveniently located in headliner.

Investing in Future Growth

GM’s fleet business is poised for additional growth, as investments in our manufacturing facilities will increase pickup truck supply to meet demand.

Recent investments at our manufacturing facilities include:

  • A $150 million investment at Flint Assembly in Flint, Michigan to increase production capacity of heavy-duty trucks by 40,000 vehicles annually, beginning in 2020.
  • A $175 million investment in a facility which will be built in Brookville, Ohio to produce engine components needed to increase production of the 6.6L Duramax diesel V-8 engines later this year.
  • A $1.5 billion investment, including $1 billion toward the Wentzville, Missouri plant, to prepare for future mid-size pickup and van improvements.

2021 Chevrolet Silverado Realtree Edition

Chevrolet and Realtree today uncovered their newest outdoor truck collaboration: the 2021 Silverado Realtree® Edition. The limited-run truck brings together the rugged capability of Silverado 1500 Custom Trail Boss with exclusive graphics from Realtree, the world’s leading camouflage brand. This is the second collaboration between the two brands, following the success of the 2016 Silverado Realtree Edition.

“Silverado continues to offer customers more choice and capability where it counts,” said Bob Krapes, director of Chevrolet Truck Marketing. “Building on the popular Custom Trail Boss model, the new Realtree Edition offers hunting and fishing enthusiasts a truck perfectly matched to their passions.”

Like all Trail Boss models, the Realtree Edition will be equipped with a 2-inch factory suspension lift, 20-inch black wheels with Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT On-Off Road Tires and the Silverado’s Z71 Off-Road Package, which includes monotube Rancho® shocks, Hill Descent Control, automatic locking rear differential, skid plates and an AutoTrac® 2-speed transfer case. The Realtree Edition also includes the 5.3L V-8 engine with a 6-speed transmission and is available with the 6.2L V-8 that will provide an SAE-certified 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Realtree camouflage graphics are featured on the exclusive exterior, as well as the interior door trim, while the Realtree logo is integrated on the standard bedliner. These outdoor-ready touches are accompanied by black Silverado and Z71 badging, black rectangular dual-exhaust tips, 4-inch black round assist steps and all-weather floor liners. The truck is also equipped with Silverado’s Durabed, which offers the most standard cargo capacity in the segment, 12 standard tie-downs and a high-strength, roll-formed steel bed floor.

“Having worked closely with Chevrolet all these years, it’s great to see the team come out with the new 2021 Silverado Realtree Edition using our latest Timber pattern,” said Realtree designer and president, Bill Jordan. “You don’t realize how much goes into building a true performance truck until you look behind the scenes, and this new truck will mean so much to all outdoor enthusiasts.”

The 2021 Silverado Realtree Edition will be on display at the 2020 SHOT Show and available for sale at Chevrolet dealerships in summer 2020. Pricing will be announced closer to production.

Overland Journal has named the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison its first Overland Truck of the Year. In their review, the editors praised the Bison as “one of the most exceptional overland trucks ever sold in North America.”

For the inaugural competition, Overland Journal evaluated six midsize pickups, including the Colorado ZR2 Bison, Ford Ranger, Jeep Gladiator, Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier and Honda Ridgeline. Editors drove these trucks thousands of miles on both roads and dirt trails, considering a range of criteria important for overlanding, including payload, durability, capability, efficiency and reliability ranking.

In his review, Overland Journal editor Scott Brady said:

“Our 2019 Overland Truck of the Year (midsize) goes to the Bison. Just a list of its features makes it the truck we always wanted, only better. It is available with a small-displacement turbo-diesel, front and rear locking differentials, a winch-ready steel front bumper, steel rear bumper with 1/4 panel protection, full-length rock sliders, and class-leading suspension. It checks all the boxes.”

Introduced as a 2019 model, the Colorado ZR2 Bison was designed in collaboration with Chevrolet and American Expedition Vehicles.

2019 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison

“From our very first meeting, Chevrolet and AEV agreed on a common goal: To build a truck capable of extreme off-road use and backed by a limited factory warranty,” said Darren Bohne, Chevrolet Colorado chief engineer. “As such, to be named the ultimate overland vehicle by the ultimate authority in overland travel is a huge honor for the entire team at Chevrolet and AEV.”

Off-road equipment on the Colorado ZR2 Bison includes:

  • Five skid plates to help protect the engine oil pan, fuel tank, transfer case and front and rear locking differentials; designed by AEV, these skid plates are constructed of hard, durable hot-stamped boron steel
  • AEV-designed stamped steel front and rear bumpers; the front bumper also features provisions for an aftermarket winch*
  • Large fender flares and ZR2 Bison-specific 17×8-inch aluminum wheels
  • Front and rear locking electronic differentials
  • Revolutionary Multimatic DSSV™ dampers
  • Cast-iron control arms for exceptional strength
  • Factory-modified rear axle with a 3.42 ratio, front and rear tracks widened by 3.5 inches and a factory suspension lifted 2 inches over a Colorado Z71
  • Available 2.8L Duramax turbo-diesel paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, capable of 186 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque

The Bison package is exclusively available on the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 and is built at General Motors’ Wentzville Assembly Center in Missouri of globally sourced parts.
