Chevrolet is introducing an all-wheel drive Corvette worthy of the storied ZR1 designation: the 2026 Corvette ZR1X. With 1,250 horsepower1 and electrified all-wheel drive, ZR1X is a true American hypercar and the most advanced Corvette ever. With ZR1 and ZR1X, Chevrolet now has the most powerful American performance car duo of any auto manufacturer.
ZR1X features:
- LT7 twin-turbo V8: 1,064 horsepower at 7,000 rpm, 828 lb-ft of torque at 6,000 rpm
- Front-axle motor: 186 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque
- GM-estimated 0-60: Under 2 seconds
- GM-estimated ¼ mile: Under 9 seconds, with trap speed over 150 mph2
“From day one, we designed the mid-engine Corvette architecture with ZR1X in mind,” said General Motors senior VP Ken Morris. “This is the most revolutionary platform in Corvette history, supporting the widest range of American sports cars3 and delivering world-class performance at every level.”

Otherworldly power, impressive traction
America’s hypercar starts with the ZR1’s LT7 V8, generating more power than any other V8 produced by an American auto manufacturer — 1,064 horsepower and 828 lb-ft of torque, sent to the rear wheels through an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. With a forged flat-plane crankshaft, finger-follower valvetrain, and dry-sump lubrication, this hand-built 5.5-liter Gemini small-block V8 was developed alongside the naturally aspirated flat-plane crankshaft engines powering the Corvette Z06 and Z06 GT3.R race car. This mighty V8 includes:
- Dual 76-mm turbochargers
- A “maniturbo” exhaust design that combines the manifold and turbocharger housing to get the turbos as close to the exhaust valves as possible, improving throttle response by decreasing time needed to build boost
- Dynamic anti-lag controls that maintain turbo speed when off-throttle in certain situations so boost is available rapidly when throttle is reapplied
Where ZR1 embodies the rear-wheel drive precedent set by prior generations, the Corvette team added all-wheel drive capability for a new take on performance. ZR1X benefits from the foundation set in 2024 by E-Ray, the first-ever AWD Corvette, combining a high-voltage battery pack and electric motor driving the front axle with V8 propulsion turning the rear axle. There is no physical connection between the two power sources on ZR1X, and the electrified propulsion system does not require a plug-in — charging takes place through regenerative efforts from the front drive unit.
ZR1X’s battery pack, located low and centralized within the rigid spine of the chassis, was designed specifically to rapidly cycle between applying bursts of power and charging. This robust pack has been tested at tracks around the world and conquered Corvette’s 24-hour track durability test. While the battery capacity is 1.9 kWh like E-Ray, the usable energy has grown to provide greater lapping capability. This improvement raises the peak operating voltage, which increases the power output from the front drive unit.
The compact electric motor on the front axle is capable of 186 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque on demand. While retaining the same shape and size of the E-Ray front drive unit, the ZR1X unit pairs strengthened internal components and improvements in energy deployment to generate an additional 26 hp and 20 lb-ft of torque. The front axle is engaged and can apply power through 160 mph before disconnecting, directly benefitting ZR1X’s quarter-mile acceleration stats and on-track balance.

Two propulsion systems, one mission
The eAWD chassis controls system designed for E-Ray has undergone a significant upgrade for ZR1X. With the benefit of experience on this electrified AWD architecture, the development team applied knowledge from E-Ray to solutions specifically for the LT7’s character and capability. The result is evident in on-road drivability and on-track performance. ZR1X is constantly monitoring driver inputs and vehicle conditions to blend power at both axles for responsiveness and traction management.
On track, ZR1X utilizes specialized energy strategies designed to maximize electrified output based on track session demands and driver preferences:
- Endurance – Engaging the Charge+ button adjusts the battery’s energy storage strategy for extended lapping and consistent eAWD output for a full tank of fuel
- Qualifying – Optimum power strategy for the ultimate lap time
- Push-to-Pass – Max available power on-demand
PTM Pro, new for 2026 on all Corvettes, was designed with ZR1X in mind. PTM Pro delivers the purest driving experience. While this setting turns off traction and stability control, the following features remain active:
- Regen Brake Torque Vectoring – engineered to recover peak energy without sacrificing agility
- Front Axle Pre-Control – actively manages inside front brake pressure to enable maximum corner-exit traction
- Launch Control – customizable settings enable rapid acceleration from a rest
Ultimate authority on-road and at the track
The ZR1X balances impressive power with robust brakes specifically developed with this car in mind. The J59 braking package, standard on ZR1X and an option on ZR1, is a clean-sheet design intended for superior heat resistance and ultra-responsive braking.
Alcon 10-piston front and 6-piston rear calipers are mated to 16.5-inch front and rear rotors — the largest diameter rotors ever offered on Corvette. The rotors are carbon ceramic, constructed with continuously woven carbon fiber threads.
This is the most resilient production car braking system we’ve tested within GM. And during testing, we saw J59-equipped Corvettes achieve 1.9G of deceleration from 180 to 120 mph.
ZR1X is offered in two chassis configurations that both feature magnetic ride control — adjusting to the vehicle’s mode, driver inputs and the road surface for optimal control. The standard chassis, accompanied by Michelin PS4S tires, makes for a comfortable touring car on-road and a highly capable Corvette at the track. The available ZTK Performance Package incorporates higher spring rates and is firmer. Paired with the grip of Michelin’s Pilot Cup 2R tires, this is the pinnacle of Corvette performance.
Customers can equip the high-downforce Carbon Aero package to a standard chassis ZR1X, adding dive planes, underbody strakes, a hood gurney lip over the front heat extractor and a highly effective rear wing. This package is capable of 1,200 lbs of downforce at top speed and comes standard on ZTK-equipped cars.
The pinnacle of Corvette performance
The 2026 Corvette ZR1X is the ultimate expression of the no-compromise eighth generation platform. It’s an all-day comfortable tourer, a straight-line rocket, and a racetrack weapon, all in one. Like every iconic sports car in the Corvette lineup, ZR1X will be available in coupe or hardtop convertible body style. ZR1X enters the market with Corvette’s fresh interior revealed last month. A new three-screen layout and reimagined console design, real-time vehicle data provided by the built-in Performance App, and new colors and high-quality materials all highlight the 2026 Corvette interior.
Every ZR1X will be proudly built in America at General Motors’ Bowling Green Assembly Plant in Kentucky from U.S. and globally sourced parts, with every LT7 engine hand-assembled by the master engine builders at the Bowling Green Performance Build Center. Further details on price and availability will be shared closer to production.
General Motors and LG Energy Solution will commercialize lithium manganese-rich (LMR) prismatic battery cells for future GM electric trucks and full-size SUVs, in a new battery technology breakthrough. This builds on a partnership between the two companies to develop prismatic battery cell technology and related chemistries, and on GM’s long legacy of American ingenuity that’s produced innovations like the small-block V8 engine, OnStar connected vehicle services and hands-free Super Cruise.
GM aims to become the first automaker to deploy LMR batteries in EVs. Ultium Cells, a GM and LG Energy Solution joint venture, plans to start commercial production of LMR prismatic cells in the United States by 2028, with pre-production expected to begin at an LG Energy Solution facility by late 2027. The final production-design of these LMR battery cells will be validated at GM’s Battery Cell Development Center in Warren, MI, which is expected to open earlier that year, as well as LG Energy Solution’s facility.
Battery cathodes require materials like cobalt, nickel and manganese, with cobalt being the most expensive. LMR battery cells use a higher proportion of more affordable manganese, while also delivering greater capacity and energy density.
Battery engineers at GM and LG Energy Solution have developed a new LMR prismatic battery cell that unlocks 33% higher energy density compared to the best-performing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) based cells – at a comparable cost.

GM’s electric truck platform has segment-leading range using high-nickel chemistry today. By integrating LMR battery technology and the manufacturing and space efficiency benefits of prismatic cells, GM aims to offer more than 400 miles of range in an electric truck while achieving significant battery pack cost savings compared to today’s high-nickel pack.
“We’re pioneering manganese-rich battery technology to unlock premium range and performance at an affordable cost, especially in electric trucks,” said Kurt Kelty, VP of battery, propulsion, and sustainability at GM. “As we look to engineer the ideal battery for each vehicle in our diverse EV portfolio, LMR will complement our high-nickel and iron-phosphate solutions to expand customer choice in the truck and full-size SUV markets, advance American battery innovation, and create jobs well into the future.”
“We’re excited to introduce the first-ever LMR prismatic cells for EVs, the culmination of our decades-long research and investment in the technology,” said Wonjoon Suh, executive VP and head of the Advanced Automotive Battery division at LG Energy Solution. “GM’s future trucks powered by this new chemistry are a strong example of our shared commitment to offering diverse EV options to consumers.”
GM began researching manganese-rich lithium-ion battery cells in 2015, accelerating this technology development by prototyping LMR cells at its Wallace Battery Cell Innovation Center in Warren. In collaboration with partners, GM engineers advanced cathode materials, electrolytes, additives, form factors, and cell assembly processes to overcome LMR’s legacy challenges in performance and durability.
LG Energy Solution holds the largest LMR technology IP portfolio globally, having secured over 200 patents1 in this technology field. Its expertise reflects extensive research, with its first patent on LMR chemistry dating back to 2010.
LMR battery technology integrates into GM’s battery supply chain and cell manufacturing processes, reinforcing strategic investments in domestic battery production and the responsible sourcing of critical materials like lithium, graphite, and manganese from North America.

Chevrolet will offer its popular off-road Trail Boss trim as part of the 2026 Silverado EV lineup starting this summer.
Previously available on Silverado and Colorado, the newly available lifted off-road trim offers customers the added capability they expect from a Trail Boss with the benefits of an electric truck.
“Trail Boss has been one of the highest turning trims in our portfolio since we first launched it on the 2019 Silverado,” said Scott Bell, vice president, Chevrolet. “Adding Trail Boss to Silverado EV gives customers an option that builds on our strong truck pedigree, high electric range and off-road capability.”
More capability
“The Silverado EV Trail Boss delivers similar capability expected with other Chevy Trail Bosses,” said Joe Roy, chief engineer for Silverado EV. “It’s an impressive truck that will meet the needs of our customers looking to get off trail and still have all the features customers have come to love about Silverado EV, including range and off-road power.”
With a 2-inch lift, the Trail Boss has 24% higher ground clearance than the base Silverado EV. The coil suspension is uniquely tuned with a hydraulic rebound control system.
Trim-exclusive Terrain mode is available at low speeds and offers additional control when maneuvering areas with uneven terrain. Compared to Normal mode, Terrain mode unlocks sharper 4-Wheel Steer, giving drivers better ability to control torque and traction at low speeds. Paired with other drive modes, including off-road mode and Sidewinder mode, the Silverado EV Trail Boss is ready for adventure.
Sidewinder, first introduced on RST trim vehicles, allows all four wheels to turn in the same direction and move the truck diagonally at low speeds1. Selectable from the infotainment screen, the feature gives drivers a new way to conquer everything from rugged terrain to tight parking spaces.
The Trail Boss version with the extended range battery pack offers a max towing of 12,500lb2 and 2,100 lb of payload3. Up to 725 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque4 is available with the Max Range battery pack.

For the 2026 model year, the entire Corvette lineup — Stingray, E-Ray, Z06, and ZR1 — will feature a thoroughly reimagined cabin with larger and more advanced driver-centric displays and fresh interior colorways, finishes and materials.
“Corvette is the ultimate American sports car, which is why it has remained the luxury sport segment leader for more than 20 years — with the next competitor a distant second in terms of market share,” said Scott Bell, vice president, Chevrolet. “With these updates, the mid-engine Corvette will continue to cement its leadership for years to come.”
Inside: where form meets function
The cabin of the new 2026 Corvette welcomes both driver and passenger, beginning with a new three-screen layout and reimagined console design. The updated driver-centric cockpit includes a larger 12.7-inch diagonal center console display, an expanded 14-inch diagonal driver information center, and an all-new 6.6-inch diagonal touchscreen auxiliary display to the left of the steering wheel.
“The design team considered every element — from materials, to stitching, to layout of the interior – for the 2026 Corvette,” said Phil Zak, executive design director, Global Chevrolet. “Paired with the new screens and technology, the refreshed interior enables a refined experience for the driver and the passenger.”

The center console has been reconfigured to place all crucial controls at the driver’s fingertips. For 2026, the drive mode selector has been redesigned and relocated in line with the gear selector. In its place, a new wireless phone charging pad1 is integrated below the infotainment system, with a cover to keep the phone in place. The volume knob remains a priority in the center console display and is now bigger and features a lit base for better visibility.
The HVAC controls have been repositioned under the center display, creating a more open environment between driver and passenger and enabling space for an integrated passenger grab handle. The passenger side also adds a new USB-C2 port strategically placed below the grab handle.
The redesigned cupholders include hand-wrapped inserts with ambient lighting, and feature the signature Corvette crossed flags at the bottom. In 2LT/2LZ and 3LT/3LZ trims, the cupholders are highlighted with real aluminum.
Standard on ZR1 and available on E-Ray and Z06, a new carbon fiber display hood over the driver information center screen enables further customization and ties into carbon fiber options already offered on Corvette.
Technology and performance unite
The seamless integration of updated hardware and software brings remarkable enhancements to the 2026 Corvette’s bespoke cockpit and built-in infotainment system. The three new configurable driver-centric displays are larger with sharper colors, more agility and added functionality.
The addition of an all-new 6.6-inch diagonal touchscreen auxiliary display gives dedicated, driver-configurable space for instrumentation like trip mileage or Performance Traction Management, making important information easier to access.
“There’s an intentional balance of physical and virtual controls,” said Dusty Smith, performance driving product manager. “For example, the head-up display controls are now virtualized, which opens space for Performance Traction Management controls to be intuitive physical buttons. The technology in the new Corvette is as strong and capable as the engine behind you.”
Tour, Sport and Track display designs have also been modernized with new animations and cleaner graphics for the speedometer, tachometer, and other gauges. Drivers can select a preferred screen layout or let the theme change with the corresponding drive mode.
The E-Ray Performance App was introduced in model year 2024, showing live horsepower and torque flow, plus data plots of power flow over time. Corvette developers have taken that a step further for 2026 models, enabling the Performance App for the entire Corvette lineup. Power and torque flow gauges are maintained, and additional capability has been added or consolidated into the app:
- Acceleration timers: Relocated to the Performance App, drivers can now set their own speed ranges for timed acceleration
- G-force gauge: Reimagined to show the limits of force the vehicle has achieved over time, providing more context than live G-force readings alone
- Tire pressure and temperature gauge: Shows live tire pressures and indicates tire temperature to help drivers anticipate available grip
- Propulsion system vitals gauge: Live feed of temperatures for engine oil temperature and pressure, engine coolant temperature, and transmission fluid temperature
- eAWD gauge: Highlights front axle power output and battery state-of-charge for E-Ray
All gauges are available in the touchscreen auxiliary display and Performance App in the center console display. They can also be sent from the app to the driver information center in Tour and Sport for further customization.
The available Performance Data Recorder has undergone a complete user interface overhaul. With system improvements and larger screens, the enhanced PDR offers real-time data analysis in-car and the ability to record high-definition video of every driving session. Drivers are empowered to analyze their performance and make data-driven adjustments for optimal results based on speed trace analysis, side by side video playback, and automated “speed tips” based on your driving data through the center console display.
All 2026 Corvettes feature a custom infotainment system with Google Built-in3, fully integrated with vehicle controls. With OnStar4 connectivity available, the Corvette packs convenience and entertainment to match its world-class performance. Customers can use voice assistance to control everything from opening the Performance Data Recorder to navigation, adjusting cabin temperature, playing your favorite song, texting, making phone calls and more. New apps like Google Chrome, GameSnacks, HBO Max, Prime Video, and others available through Google Play5 allow occupants to stream movies, play games, and browse the web while parked.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also available.

Navigating Vehicle Maintenance in Western Washington: How Burien Chevrolet Keeps You Road-Ready
Living in Western Washington means embracing a unique blend of weather patterns, traffic conditions, and terrain that can significantly impact your vehicle’s performance and longevity. From the relentless rain to the occasional snowstorm, and from congested urban roads to mountainous passes, your car faces challenges that demand specialized care.
At Burien Chevrolet, we understand these regional demands and are committed to providing top-tier maintenance and service to ensure your vehicle operates safely and efficiently year-round.
The Western Washington Driving Environment
Rain and Wet Conditions
Western Washington is renowned for its frequent rainfall, which can lead to slick roads and reduced visibility. Proper tire maintenance is crucial; tires should have adequate tread depth to channel water effectively and prevent hydroplaning. Windshield wipers and lights must be in optimal condition to ensure clear visibility during downpours. Neglecting these components can increase the risk of accidents during wet conditions.
Snow and Ice
While less common in the lowlands, snow and ice are prevalent in higher elevations and mountain passes. Washington State law requires vehicles to have traction tires or carry chains during winter conditions. Traction tires must have at least an eighth of an inch of tread and be labeled M+S, All Season, or have a Mountain/Snowflake symbol. Ensuring your vehicle is equipped with appropriate tires and that chains are in good condition is essential for safe winter driving.
Traffic and Urban Driving
The Seattle metropolitan area is known for its heavy traffic, which can lead to increased wear on brakes and engines due to frequent stop-and-go conditions. Regular brake inspections and engine maintenance are vital to prevent premature wear and ensure your vehicle can handle urban driving demands.

The studio opening also provided a first glimpse of a GMC concept vehicle to be revealed later in 2025, developed in partnership with the GMC design team in Detroit.
GM’s design teams regularly work on conceptual design studies that are intended to drive ideation, innovation, and collaboration across the company.
With the opening of the UK studio, GM continues to demonstrate its commitment to Europe as the company scales its Cadillac electric vehicle business there, while also preparing to launch Corvette sales across the UK and mainland Europe.

The UK design studio is an integral part of GM’s global design footprint, providing valuable insights into European customer and cultural trends and introducing new talent and fresh perspectives into GM’s global network. GM’s global design footprint also spans studios in Detroit, Los Angeles, Shanghai, and Seoul.
The UK studio is led by Julian Thomson, a deeply experienced automotive designer who has worked with some of the industry’s most recognized brands. The 24,584-square-foot Royal Leamington Spa studio, which employs more than 30 designers and creative team members, is outfitted for both digital and physical clay model development.

“Our advanced design team’s mandate extends well beyond creating production vehicles,” said Michael Simcoe, senior VP of global design. “While they collaborate within our global design network on production and concept vehicle programs, these teams are primarily tasked with imagining what mobility could look like five, 10, and even 20 years into the future and driving innovation for GM.”
The Corvette nameplate has long been leveraged to introduce experimental cars, concepts and prototypes that push the boundaries of automotive design and engineering, and the new UK design concept is no exception. While there is no production intention behind this concept, the GM UK Design team undertook this exercise to rethink what a Corvette could be with a true blank-page approach.
“As part of the Corvette creative study, we asked multiple studios to develop hypercar concepts, which we’ll see more of later this year,” Simcoe said. “It was important that they all pay homage to Corvette’s historic DNA, but each studio brought their own unique creative interpretation to the project. That is exactly what our advanced design studio network is intended to do – push the envelope, challenge convention and imagine what could be.”

The UK team’s concept subtly incorporates Corvette’s iconic design heritage into a futuristic aesthetic focused on clean forms and muscular shapes. The design draws inspiration from the aviation industry, both in the sculptural and functional elements.
“One of the most unusual and significant aspects of our concept’s design is a feature known as Apex Vision,” said Thomson. “A nod to Corvette’s centerline focus, and inspired by the iconic ‘split window’ 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray, this feature emphasizes a singular vertical central spine that is also a structural element, also providing a panoramic view of the road and surroundings.”

The exterior design includes a distinctive division between the upper and lower halves of the vehicle. The upper half captures the Corvette’s classic design elements, but in a futuristic manner. The lower half focuses on functional technical design, including EV battery technology embedded into the structure and aerodynamics elements designed to channel air efficiently without the need for wings or spoilers.Play VideoPlayMuteCurrent Time 0:00/Duration 1:22Loaded: 11.94%
