This past year has been a doozy. It didn’t take long for all of our New Year’s Resolutions for 2020 to become nearly impossible to complete with isolation orders, businesses closing, and other obstacles. Surely 2021 will be better (right?!), but there’s still a lot of uncertainty, so what are some productive and realistic New Year’s Resolutions for 2021? Understanding the stresses of this past year aren’t past for most people, the focus of this list is adding positivity to your life, compared to trying quit negative things (which adds more stress and may not be realistic).  Here are 8 ideas to get you started!

  • Read 3 more books than you did last year
  • Try 1 new food each month
  • Become a plant owner! Indoor plants are an inexpensive way to better emotional health and air quality of your living space.
  • Drink more water!
  • Already working out? Try listening to books or novels instead of music during your workout!
  • Start or write in more frequently a journal! This can be good for your mental health as well as record your experiences during this historic time.
  • Eating more vegetables is a common resolution, so how about a resolution to eat more citrus fruit! Citrus fruit is full of vitamins and other good stuff our bodies need, plus they are low calory and so tasty.
  • Try meditation and/or yoga to better your physical and mental health. There are many free or low-cost programs to help guide you through meditation/yoga and the benefits include better self-awareness and overall wellness. It also carves out “you alone” time during a time many of us craving alone time because we are inside with our families so much.

There is a lot to celebrate with the ending of 2020 and beginning of 2021, but Covid-19 cases still on the rise around the country, the safest way to celebrate winter holidays and New Year’s Eve is still at home. But that doesn’t mean it has to be boring or even with just household members. Here are some ideas to help you celebrate safely.

  • Do a photo backdrop challenge for you and/or your kids with other families. Best photo background wins!
  • Make lists of predictions for 2021; they can be silly or not. At this point nothing is off the table!
  • Play fun games like Musical Chairs, Apples to Apples, Charades and others. Some of these games can easily played with other groups over zoom!
  • Give your holiday a fun theme. Make it an 80s Christmas or Grinch New Year’s Eve (seems very appropriate). Even if your celebrations are smaller this year, fun themes like this will make them memorable and fun.
  • Build fun breaks into your celebrations. Random dance breaks. Everyone has to freeze throughout the day when 1 family member yells freeze. You have to say something your thankful for anytime someone asks you all throughout the day. Make it fun or meaningful!

First-in-segment available turbo-diesel engine brings impressive efficiency, smooth driving experience

The 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel is the most fuel-efficient full-size SUV in its class. Better fuel efficiency supports longer trips in this best-selling nameplate known for its size, capability and cargo.

The Chevrolet Tahoe with the available 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel engine offers an EPA-estimated 28 highway, 21 city and 24 combined mpg in rear-wheel-drive models. EPA-estimated fuel economy for four-wheel drive models is 26 highway, 20 city and 22 combined mpg.

This is Chevy’s first diesel inline-six engine for full-size SUVs, and the brand’s first diesel offered in full-size SUVs since 1999. In the Suburban, the 3.0L Duramax offers an EPA estimated 27 highway, 21 city and 23 combined mpg in two-wheel drive models and 26 highway, 20 city and 22 combined mpg in four-wheel drive models.

“The 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel brings a refined engine experience to the already impressive redesign of the all-new 2021 Tahoe and Suburban,” said Bob Krapes, Chevrolet Trucks marketing director. “Combining the segment’s best fuel efficiency with increased space inside of the vehicle compared to the previous generation equals an all-new Tahoe and Suburban ready for the next long road trip or family adventure.”

The 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel launched first in the 2020 Silverado, utilizing state-of-the-art technologies to optimize fuel and integrate into the all-new vehicle architecture. Small changes adapt the engine for the full-size SUV application, including enhanced noise abatement and a new engine control module, specifically designed to leverage the faster data-processing power of the all-new models. The engine is exclusively paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission for a smooth shifting experience.

With an SAE-certified 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, the Tahoe 3.0L Duramax with two-wheel drive is capable of maximum towing up to 8,200 pounds and a max payload of 1,717 pounds2. The Suburban with the same engine is capable of a maximum towing of 8,000 pounds and a max payload of 1,625 pounds in two-wheel drive models. A standard exhaust brake is available in tow-haul mode and can provide additional driver confidence when towing.

“The 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel brings responsive torque and a smooth driving experience, ideal for those who tow or spend many hours behind the wheel,” said John Barta, assistant chief engineer for the 3.0L Duramax. “Not only is the 3.0L Duramax a refined engine, but the total experience benefits from the efforts to deliver enhanced driving dynamics in Tahoe and Suburban through the independent rear suspension and available Magnetic Ride Control and Four-Corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension.”

The driver-selectable stop/start technology optimizes fuel economy by shutting off the engine at stoplights and certain other stop-and-go situations, helping to save fuel.

The 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel is available on the LS, LT, RST and Premier trims with an MSRP3 of $995 over the base 5.3L V-8 gas engine. It is also available in the High Country trim as a $1,500 MSRP decrease over the standard 6.2L V-8 gas engine.

The first customer deliveries of the 2021 Tahoe and Suburban with the available 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel are expected to begin before the end of the year.

Our favorite non-pumpkin pie dessert? There’s so many, but the Samoa Cheesecake is definitely a winner. What are some of your non-pumpkin pie dessert favorites?

1977 K5 Blazer-E features Chevrolet Performance eCrate package, expected to be available second half of 2021

At SEMA360, Chevrolet will showcase a 1977 K5 Blazer converted to all-electric propulsion. The K5 Blazer-E is a functional proof of concept of the upcoming Electric Connect and Cruise package Chevrolet Performance plans to sell in the second half of 2021.

During the virtual event, Chevrolet Performance will survey SEMA members interested in building their own electric projects to help finalize Chevrolet’s initial eCrate offering.

“As GM introduces a new fleet of electric vehicles, it creates an exciting opportunity to bring EV technology to the aftermarket,” said Jim Campbell, GM U.S. vice president of Performance and Motorsports. “Our vision is to offer a comprehensive line of Connect and Cruise systems from Chevrolet Performance – delivering a solution for every customer ranging from LSX V-8s to eCrate conversions.”

Building the K5 Blazer-E

Chevrolet first previewed the eCrate conversion concept with the Chevrolet eCOPO Camaro in 2018, followed by the Chevrolet E-10 in 2019. Learnings from those vehicles helped inform Chevrolet’s Electric Connect and Cruise strategy.

The new K5 Blazer-E retains as much of the stock Blazer as possible and approximately 90 percent of the new parts installed for the eCrate package are factory components from the Chevrolet Bolt EV.

To convert the 1977 K5 Blazer, the team first removed from the Blazer the original 175-horsepower 400 cubic-inch V-8, three-speed automatic, fuel system and exhaust. Then, the team installed a Bolt EV electric motor, delivering 200 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque, paired with a Chevrolet Performance electronically controlled four-speed automatic. The rest of the Blazer drivetrain remains untouched, including the transfer case, driveshaft and axles.

Power is supplied by a 400-volt Bolt EV battery pack with 60 kilowatt-hours of usable energy installed in the cargo area. Using production controllers and wiring harnesses preserves many Bolt EV features, including shock protection, battery heating and cooling, battery-overcharge protection and even regenerative braking.

The aftermarket components include an electric power steering kit, an electric pump providing vacuum to the stock brake system, and an electronic controller to drive inputs to the vintage Blazer gauges – such as displaying the battery’s state of charge on the original fuel gauge.

eCrate Installer Certification Program

To prepare for the eCrate launch, Chevrolet Performance is certifying Electric Connect and Cruise installers. Participating Chevrolet dealers and aftermarket companies will receive the training, tools and equipment needed to work with high-voltage systems and charging stations to service customers’ vehicles.

Lingenfelter Performance Engineering in Brighton, Michigan will be the first company to pilot the training and certification program. This experience will help inform the certification process for future installers.

The 60-kWh Electric Connect and Cruise package, expected to be available in the second half of 2021, includes:

  • 60-kWh battery pack
  • 200-horsepower electric motor
  • DC-to-AC power inverter to drive the electric motor
  • DC-to-DC power converter to power low-voltage systems
  • Wiring harnesses, controllers and water pumps for battery heating and cooling

Chevrolet Performance is also evaluating additional eCrate packages with higher-performance options and new battery configurations to fit a wider range of aftermarket applications. Longer term, the team will work to integrate GM’s modular Ultium battery system technologies.

“Minutes after Chevrolet showed the E-10 concept, customers started calling to ask how soon they could build their EV project,” said Russ O’Blenes, Chevrolet director of engineering, Performance and Racing. “The K5 Blazer-E demonstrates what is possible for customers who want to convert their vintage truck to a daily driver with the instant torque and unique driving experience of an EV. For customers who want more extreme performance, the modular eCrate system will have virtually limitless applications.”

More information about Chevrolet’s aftermarket offerings featured at SEMA360, including new performance parts for the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban and full portfolio of crate engines, can be found at Chevrolet.com/SEMA.

Chevrolet shared a glimpse of the 2022 Bolt EUV Power Flow Screen, which will give owners critical information about their electric vehicle, including regen braking use and battery charge level. The Bolt EUV will be the first electric vehicle from Chevrolet to feature Super Cruise1, the industry’s first true hands-free driver assistance system for compatible highways. The refreshed Bolt EV and the Bolt EUV will go into production in summer 2021.

1 Even while using the Super Cruise driver assistance feature for compatible highways, always pay attention while driving and do not use a hand-held device. Requires properly equipped vehicle, active Super Cruise subscription, working electrical system, cell reception, and GPS signal.
