The first retail production 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 convertible raised $1 million for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund at the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Auction on April 9. This auction and the sale of the first retail production 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 70 th Anniversary Edition in January bring the total amount of money raised for charity by the 2023 Corvette Z06 to $4.6 million in 2022. The 2023 Corvette Z06, which offers the highest-horsepower naturally aspirated V-8 of any production car, drove onto the world-famous auction block in support of the TMCF’s Teacher Quality & Retention Program. Representatives from TMCF, the nation’s largest organization exclusively representing Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Predominantly Black Institutions, were at the auction to experience this exciting moment in the organization’s history. Built on 25 years of success with the Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicle, Chevrolet debuted its first pursuit-rated Silverado. The 2023 Silverado Police Pursuit Vehicle is a crew-cab, short-bed, four-wheel drive truck designed for high speeds and dynamic capability with the added comfort and ample storage capacity needed for an everyday patrol vehicle. “We are constantly having conversations with customers and evaluating how we can better meet their needs,” said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president of GM Fleet. “Our 25 years of engineering Tahoe police pursuit vehicles coupled with Chevrolet’s 100 years of truck success, puts us in a great position to deliver a truly capable Silverado PPV for our customers.” Extending Chevrolet’s PPV Performance Success The Silverado PPV shares many of the most desirable Tahoe PPV performance underpinnings. Highlights include a 355-horsepower 5.3L V-8 engine, standard 10-speed automatic transmission and six-piston Brembo brake front calipers with 16-inch rotors for increased brake durability. Performance is optimized with a standard heavy-duty engine air filter. Read the experience of Chef Kim about her week-long test drive of the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer RS as published in the New Roads Chevrolet online magazine! One Week with a Trailblazer RS Chef Kim is passionate about sourcing the tastiest in-season produce for her restaurant, in tandem with local growers. We loaned her a 2021 Trailblazer RS to help get from farm to table with ease. Trying to explain the vision for her restaurant, Miss Kim, can be tricky, so chef and managing partner Ji Hye Kim sums it up in two simple sentences. “I tell people that it’s as much a Michigan restaurant as it is a Korean restaurant,” she says. “Our food is inspired by Korean grandmothers and by Michigan farmers.” That dedication to fresh, locally sourced produce while respecting her Korean heritage and the home-cooked meals from her youth keeps Chef Kim busy around her home of Ann Arbor, Michigan. “I have to run errands all the time if I want to buy one little ingredient to test a recipe, or if we run out of something,” she says. Her efforts have paid off not only in a happy and well-fed clientele — even after a challenging year for restaurants during the pandemic — but also in professional recognition, with Miss Kim named a semifinalist for the 2020 James Beard culinary awards. While Ann Arbor’s 100-year-old farmers market is just blocks from her restaurant, Kim spends plenty of time on the road visiting local food suppliers and farms. Those shopping trips inform Miss Kim’s recipes — not the other way around. They also were inspiration for some delectable recipes Kim is sharing with New Roads readers just in time to add a touch of Korean flavor to your holiday table. “My favorite thing is to walk through the farmers market to see what’s in season and what strikes my fancy, and that gets my mind turning on the next item I’m going to put on the menu,” she says. She also shops the nearby Argus Farm Stop, which sells items from more than 200 area farmers. Thanks to her experience and connections with local farmers, Kim says she can often tell which farms the vegetables are from by look, feel, or taste. Unlike some chefs who began stirring and chopping as soon as they could walk, Kim didn’t start cooking until later in life. Growing up in South Korea, Kim says her mother didn’t let her in the kitchen: “She’s pretty possessive of the kitchen. She’s known as the best cook in the family.” Despite working in restaurants after she moved to New Jersey as a teenager, Kim wasn’t bitten by the culinary bug until much later. At dinner parties, she realized that even if the conversation was boring, delicious food kept her attention. Almost on a whim, she decided to leave her corporate career and got a job at Ann Arbor staple Zingerman’s Deli. “I took a 90-percent pay cut,” Kim says. “That’s not hyperbole — I did the math.” But what she gave up in salary was more than made up for in experiences. Starting off in the bread department and spending some time selling specialty cheeses, she began to build up her culinary skills and know-how in running a kitchen. After a few years, Kim took advantage of Zingerman’s entrepreneurship program and, with a partner, opened a local food cart called San Street. It was a lower-risk way for Kim to gain firsthand experience cooking and operating her own business. With the food cart running from April through October, Kim used winters to intern at restaurants and kitchens around the country. But she credits her most formative cooking experience to spending time overseas at the Rome Sustainable Food Project. “That’s when I saw local farmers bringing in vegetables every day,” she recalls. “It played a lot into how I perceive food and work in a restaurant with local farmers, and just being conscious of sustainability.” Returning to the U.S., Kim again worked with Zingerman’s to launch Miss Kim. The restaurant has a cute patio outdoors and a cozy interior with tall ceilings and painted-brick walls. Located in Ann Arbor’s historic Kerrytown district, it’s surrounded by cobblestone streets lined with other independent businesses. To help this busy chef keep her business humming, we loaned her a 2021 Trailblazer RS for a week of ingredient shopping, delivering finished meals, and everything in between. It turns out the crossover’s ample cargo space served up a just-right cocktail of utility for Kim’s lifestyle. “My favorite part is the versatility,” says Kim. “Trailblazer’s back seat is spacious, so I can give my staff members a ride home, but then I can also easily fold the seats down, and I have a huge cargo area for when I’m catering or transporting ingredients.” With the busy streets and tight parking spots of the area, Kim especially appreciated the Trailblazer’s city-appropriate size and easy maneuverability. “The Trailblazer has a pretty tight turning radius,” she says. “It’s pretty nimble.” When she had to drive farther to source ingredients or visit other restaurants in nearby areas, Kim appreciated Trailblazer’s standard Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, † as well as the ability to project the navigation app from her smartphone right to the vehicle’s infotainment screen. “This is the first time I’ve used Apple CarPlay, ®† and I thought it was super helpful,” she says. “It was nice to be able to put my phone down and still be able to see directions on the screen.” Plus, Trailblazer’s powerful yet fuel-efficient † engine meant she could take less time out of her busy schedule for gas stops: “I’ve been driving all over for errands, and it’s definitely not a gas guzzler.” All told, Trailblazer was a big hit with Kim as she juggled the many demands of running her popular restaurant. “It’s sort of the best of both worlds,” she says of the SUV, “because I can transport all the cargo that I need for the restaurant, but it’s not so big that I find it difficult to drive or to fit into my routine.”

Chevy Silverado ZR2 and Colorado ZR2 clinched Best In The Desert class championships with respective wins at the Cal City Desert Challenge. It was the second consecutive championship for the Silverado ZR2 and the fourth straight championship for the Colorado ZR2, with both fielded by Chad Hall Racing. “It has been another expectation-shattering season, with the championships for the Silverado ZR2 and Colorado ZR2,” said Roger McCormack, director, Accessories and Performance Parts Marketing. “The successes for both vehicles, which are very close to the production models, wouldn’t have been possible without the closely synced relationship between Chad Hall Racing and the Chevrolet engineering team.” Chad Hall Racing has been competing with a pre-production version of the Silverado ZR2 since 2019, helping Chevrolet test and validate the off-road technologies that went into the upcoming 2022 production model. Similarly, the team helped test the Chevy Colorado ZR2 off-road technologies in competition — and is still going strong with them. The Chad Hall Racing Colorado ZR2 has been competing since 2017 in the Best In The Desert series and is the only truck in its class to have finished every race entered. It has accumulated more than 22,500 miles of racing experience. “It has been very rewarding to field vehicles that are so well engineered,” said Chad Hall. “The tests and refinements made over the years with the Colorado ZR2 and the new Silverado ZR2 absolutely prove the adage that racing improves the breed — making the production vehicles stronger and more capable because of it.” The Colorado ZR2 race vehicle also helped test and validate 15 factory race components that are available to Colorado owners through Chevrolet dealers. They include Multimatic long-travel DSSV dampers and long-travel leaf springs, jounce shocks, a steel driveshaft, a tie rod sleeve system, ball-spline half-shafts and other parts designed to optimize off-road driving performance and durability. Similar components have been developed for the Silverado, including long-travel suspension parts and a steel driveshaft, which were recently introduced at the 2021 SEMA Show. “Performance and personalization upgrades are increasingly popular with customers and Chevrolet has what they need to take their off-road vehicles to the next level,” said McCormack. “Better yet, these factory-engineered parts are tuned and validated over thousands of combined off-road development miles, including unforgiving Best In The Desert race courses.” More details on the Colorado and Silverado parts are available at www.chevrolet.com/performance-parts. The pioneering project car gets plugged into the EV era with a 340-horsepower, 400-volt battery-electric powertrain The 1957 Chevy hot rod known as Project X has been rebuilt for the EV era with a Chevrolet Performance concept electric propulsion system. The iconic 1957 Chevy known as Project X drives into the future today as the car makes its debut, powered by an electric motor that delivers an estimated 340 horsepower. The latest reinvention of the famous HOT ROD project car is the result of a collaboration between Chevrolet Performance, MotorTrend and Cagnazzi Racing. Unveiled at the SEMA show, Project X proves that the electric future of driving doesn’t require leaving the past behind. Originally purchased for $250 in 1965, Project X has served as a testbed for more than five decades as editors ofMotorTrend’s HOT ROD brand have evaluated new products, technologies and trends. Over the years, it has been powered by inline-six and V-8 engines, and has at times used carburetors, fuel injection and supercharging. The classic ’57 has been reimagined so often and so extensively that it has been called the million-dollar Chevy. “Project X has always served the car community by pushing the envelope with groundbreaking technologies,” said Douglas Glad, group content director, MotorTrend Group. “As the auto industry shifts rapidly toward electric vehicles, this Project X build is just the latest in its celebrated legacy of adapting hot rodding to the powerful technology of tomorrow.” For the latest incarnation, builder Cagnazzi Racing replaced Project X’s supercharged LSX V-8 with an electric motor that delivers an estimated 340 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque. The battery, which is being evaluated for potential use as a next-generation Chevrolet Performance product, has been developed around a modular concept that could allow customers to scale the pack capacity based on range, cost, packaging and weight considerations. In Project X, the 400-volt proof-of-concept lithium-ion battery stores 30 kilowatt-hours of electricity, providing enough range for weekend cruising. A quick-change differential allows the final-drive ratio to be adjusted based on how the car is being used. Fitting the differential with a shorter final-drive ratio provides quicker acceleration while using a taller gear relaxes performance and extends the range. “The reinvention of Project X is a reminder that our vision for a world with zero emissions includes classics like the Tri-Five Chevys,” said Prashant Ahire, eCrate regional chief engineer. “As General Motors rolls out its trailblazing EV technology, Chevrolet Performance plans to offer EV propulsion solutions for enthusiasts looking to modernize their project cars.” Cagnazzi Racing performed the motor swap in its Mooresville, North Carolina, shop. The EV conversion also necessitated a switch to an electric brake booster and electrohydraulic power steering pump. Project X still rides on the sixth-generation Corvette front suspension that was installed in 2007, although there have been some changes. The removal of the exhaust system allowed the team to lower the car by roughly 2 inches. Project X has also been fitted with softer front springs and stiffer rear springs since the electrified car carries less weight under the hood and more weight over the rear axle compared with the previous build. “We are racers and hot rodders, with deep roots in internal-combustion racing engines,” said Vic Cagnazzi, owner of Cagnazzi Racing. “But we see this next leap into EV performance propulsion as a natural evolution for hot rodding. Our goal with this conversion was to maintain the look and integrity of the classic hot rod, while modernizing the propulsion technology.” To that end, Project X still has the same classic look that it’s worn for decades. The biggest aesthetic change is found inside the car: Project X now uses the same push-button gear selector as the 2021 Chevrolet Corvette. It’s a subtle clue that this timeless project car is once again doing things differently. Chevrolet drives into the SEMA Show this week led by The Chevy Beast — a concept vision of the ultimate in high-performance desert running. Superior capability, control and performance The Chevy Beast was designed to dominate the desert with capabilities, control and performance rooted in a production-based foundation and off-the-shelf performance enhancements. Designers and engineers started with the chassis of a Silverado short-bed model and modified it for high-speed desert running. The frame was shortened and a custom-designed, 4130 chromoly tubular safety structure was integrated while the modified chassis was wrapped with a custom, lightweight body. A concept, long-travel off-road suspension system was also created for the vehicle, including a five-link rear suspension. Along with a widened, 91-inch track, it contributes to more stable handling and optimal driver control during high-speed off-road driving. “There’s nothing else like The Chevy Beast,” says Jeff Trush, GM program manager, Pace Car and Specialty Show Vehicles. “It delivers a ton of performance and capability, which makes it adept at conquering rough terrain — and it flat-out flies in desert running.” That high-speed capability is derived from a Chevrolet Performance LT4 crate engine 1 — a 6.2L supercharged V-8 that’s rated at 650 hp. It’s backed by a 10L90 10-speed automatic transmission that sends torque to a two-speed transfer case and distributes it to 37-inch-tall off-road tires mounted on 20-inch beadlock wheels. The concept also includes the Chevrolet Performance Big Brake Upgrade System. The Chevy Beast’s impressive capability is complemented with equally dramatic and purposeful style. Tubular doors and a simple, lightweight clamshell-type front end reflect the functionality and aesthetic of desert running while the rear of the vehicle was intentionally designed with almost no overhang to maximize the angle of attack on steep grades. A pair of spare tires are mounted in the bed while the rear of the vehicle itself is left open to help extract dust. Additional unique design cues include a custom front grille, front and rear bowtie emblems and powerful off-road lighting from Baja Designs®. Inside, the customized cab has a minimalist, functional design, featuring a quartet of Recaro® performance seats with four-point harnesses, as well as a pair of 7-inch-diagonal LCD screens that monitor vehicle functions and performance data, including pitch and roll during off-road driving scenarios. “The Chevy Beast concept sets a new standard for off-road performance,” said Trush. The concept also strikes a more distinctive pose with black nameplates, a Front Illuminated Bowtie emblem in black, and Illuminated Front and Rear Door Sill Plates with Tahoe Script, all available from Chevrolet Accessories. 2021 Suburban Street concept — Chevrolet Performance engineers elevated the stature of this Suburban concept by lowering its ride height thanks to the adjustable settings of its available Four Corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension. A set of 24-inch, custom-cut and polished billet aluminum wheels wrapped with 285/30R24 Pirelli tires complete the streetwise stance and is complemented with an available Chevrolet Performance Brembo® brake upgrade system. The 6.2L engine is standard on the High Country. This engine comes with dual exhaust and features Dynamic Fuel Management technology, designed to optimize engine efficiency across a broad range of driving conditions, including when towing a trailer. When the RST is ordered with the 6.2L V-8, customers also gain Magnetic Ride Control, one of the fastest-reacting damping systems in the industry. Magnetic Ride Control is standard on Premier and High Country and available on Z71. The 5.3L V-8 remains the standard engine on LS, LT, Z71, RST and Premier models. The optional Duramax 3.0L turbo-diesel is available on all models except Z71. All engines are mated to a standard 10-speed automatic transmission with push-button electronic shift. New for 2022, the available electronic limited slip differential draws on sports car DNA to deliver improved driving performance in a full-size SUV. If wheel slip is detected on either side of the vehicle, eLSD reacts quickly to shift power to the wheel with better traction. That additional traction can contribute to increased driver confidence in difficult types of terrain and weather conditions. Available on the off-road focused Z71 trim, eLSD also can be used in 4WD Low to help prevent wheelslip in dirt and mud. Enhanced trailering technology and larger driver information cluster For 2022, Tahoe and Suburban will now offer up to 13 available, unique camera views 1, including a transparent trailer view that helps the driver virtually “see through” a connected, compatible trailer when the truck is properly equipped. Additional new trailering views include a rear trailer view, a picture-in-picture side view, and a view inside a trailer when an accessory camera is connected. A new, larger 12.3-inch-diagonal configurable digital instrument cluster is now standard on 2022 Tahoe and Suburban for LT trims and above. With four user-selectable layouts, this cluster allows drivers to (customize or personalize) display information in the way most comfortable for them during short trips or a long family adventure. Seamless infotainment system with Google built-in compatibility Today’s modern drivers increasingly expect seamless integration between their personal tech and vehicles. With Google built-in, 2 standard on trims LT and above, drivers will have access to Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play right on the vehicle display. This new experience works with Android Auto TM3 and Apple CarPlay 4 capability and offers new levels of customization and flexibility for customers. Rather than connect a smartphone and project onto the center screen, select Google apps and services are integrated into the vehicle’s hardwire. Users have access to Google Assistant, Google Maps, and in-vehicle applications on Google Play. The integration will continue to evolve over time, but 2022 Tahoe and Suburban customers will be able to control vehicle functions by voice or the steering wheel, including: Phone calls and messaging (SMS), when phone paired Audio volume Changing AM/FM radio or SiriusXM channel (subscription required 5) Navigation using Google Maps HVAC The 2022 Tahoe and Suburban will continue to offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. Additional standard active safety features 6 and color choices Safety is an important consideration for many Tahoe and Suburban customers. The 2022 models have two active safety features now standard across all trims: Front and Rear Park Assist and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning. Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning uses a brief, gentle steering wheel turn to alert you when you may be unintentionally drifting out of detected lane lines. It is part of a suite of six standard active safety features called Chevy Safety Assist on every trim for the 2022 Tahoe and Suburban. In addition to Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Chevy Safety Assist also includes: Automatic Emergency Braking Front Pedestrian Braking Forward Collision Alert Following Distance Indicator IntelliBeam auto high beams Buckle to Drive will be a standard feature on the 2022 Tahoe and Suburban to help remind drivers to buckle up before driving. The feature does not allow a shift out of park until the driver and front passenger, if detected, have their seat belts fastened. Buckling a seat belt is among the top ways drivers can protect themselves in a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Additionally, Tahoe and Suburban also will offer new exterior colors: Evergreen Gray Metallic, Auburn Metallic and Dark Ash Metallic. The 2022 Tahoe and Suburban will begin production in October.

The COPO Camaro returns to the drag strip and its roots with a 572-cubic-inch Big Block V-8 The COPO Camaro returns to the drag strip for 2022 with a newly available 572-cubic-inch engine. The Big Block V-8 channels the spirit of the original 1969 COPO Camaro, a purpose-built drag racer created by dealers using the Central Office Production Order system to equip cars with Chevrolet’s largest V-8. The COPO 572 uses a cast-iron block with four-bolt main caps, aluminum heads, a forged steel crankshaft, forged steel connecting rods and forged aluminum pistons. Pricing for the COPO Camaro with the 572 starts from $105,500 (excluding tax, title, license, and dealer fees). 2022 Chevrolet COPO Camaro with a 572-cubic-inch Big-Block V-8 The 2022 COPO Camaro is also available with LSX-based Small Block engines – A supercharged 350-cubic-inch V-8 rated by the NHRA at 580 horsepower and a naturally aspirated 427-cubic-inch V-8 with an NHRA-rated 470 hp. All 2022 COPO Camaros use an ATI Racing Products TH400 three-speed automatic transmission. Engineered for drag racers, the COPO Camaro is sold as a Chevrolet Performance part and cannot be registered for street use. It competes in NHRA Stock and Super Stock eliminators and comes standard with a carbon fiber hood and wheelie bars. Buyers can customize their cars with options such as a trunk-mounted weight box and parachute. Owning a COPO Camaro places drag racers in rare company – Chevrolet has built fewer than 700 examples since the program restarted in 2012. In past years, interested customers have entered a lottery to win an allotment for one of 69 cars. Chevrolet will not limit production for 2022, and orders will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Buyers may also participate in a private tour of the COPO Build Facility in Oxford, Michigan, where each car is custom made.
