Combining impressive fuel economy and a uniquely styled body, the 2018 Chevy Spark is designed for urban living and is already making waves in the mini-vehicle community. Read on to find out why the Spark is the best city-designed car on the market.
Size
The 2018 Spark’s small size allows for nimble handling in crowded cities. Even sub-compact vehicles can struggle with narrow streets and tight turns. The Spark has no trouble with smaller parking spaces that often plague parking structures in cities and are a constant source of frustration for drivers of larger vehicles.
Just how small is the Spark? The overall length of the vehicle is 143.1 inches and the width, not including the side mirrors, is 62.8 inches. Despite the exterior dimensions pointing towards a cramped interior, there’s plenty of space in the Spark for both driver and front passenger. The back seat, which is accessible via the cleverly incorporated rear doors, is a little tighter but still easily accessible and comfortable. Thanks to clever storage compartments and the surprising amount of cargo space in the back, drivers don’t have to leave their essentials at home when they head out for the day.
Budget
One of the biggest draws of the Chevy Spark for cost-conscious city dwellers is its price tag. The top tier model is priced at $18,300 MSRP fully equipped with available features and automatic transmission. If that’s still above your budget, the $13,925 MSRP base model with manual transmission is cheaper than many used vehicles but still has the bonus of modern entertainment technology and excellent fuel economy.
Features
Although the Chevy Spark is small, it’s packed with features. The base model comes standard with a rear-vision backup camera and a 7-inch color infotainment touchscreen with Chevrolet MyLink radio, a generous 3-month trial of GM’s OnStar system, and 4G LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity. Higher tiers also include add-on features like power windows and remote keyless entry.
In addition, the base model has full smartphone integration via either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, which allows drivers to access their favorite apps, including navigation and entertainment options, via voice control. The top tier model also has cruise control, wheel-mounted controls, a leather steering wheel, and heated front seats.
Fuel Economy
Thanks to the 2018 Spark’s diminutive size and accompanying smaller 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine, it gets excellent gas mileage. The manual transmission is EPA-rated at 29 miles in the city, 37 on the highway, while the automatic continuously variable transmission models are bumped up to 30 and 39 miles per gallon in the city and highway, respectively.
Drive
The Spark truly shines in city driving, with light responsive steering and snappy acceleration. It produces 98 horsepower overall, and all models come with front-wheel drive configurations. It handles bumps in the road with little issue thanks to its great suspension system.
Designed for the city, the 2018 Chevy Spark is a great choice for drivers looking for flexible performance and wallet-friendly pricing.
