The Roads Best Traveled

This article originally appeared in Chevrolet's online magazine, New Roads Magazine. See the complete descriptions of each of these amazing drives at the link! No one knows the best hidden, winding, scenic roads like a Corvette owner. We got eight local Corvette clubs to spill their secrets when it comes to their favorite drives. This year, the Corvette marks its 70th anniversary. To honor this iconic sports car — and inspire you to explore somewhere new in your Corvette — we asked Corvette clubs around the country which cruises are their favorite and keep them coming back. From straights that’ll send your tachometer spinning to twists and turns where you can find that perfect apex, there’s something for everyone in each of these routes. Just make sure to stop and enjoy the scenery along the way, too. Albuquerque to Los Alamos For the New Mexico Corvette Club, heading into the mountains is the best way to find roads welcoming to Corvettes. Arkansas: AR-16 to AR-23 For a Corvette club based in northwest Arkansas, it's no wonder one of their favorite routes winds through the Ozark Mountains. Massachusetts: Quabbin Resevoir to Black Dog Bar & Grill Taking you through Massachusetts and Connecticut, this 75-mile route along winding two-lane roads is a favorite of the Eastern Massachusetts Corvette Club. West Virginia: Lewisburg to Thomas Winding its way from Lewisburg to Thomas, this favorite route of the Kanawha Valley Corvette Club samples some of the best of the Appalachian Mountains and ample opportunities for exciting driving. Nevada: Nevada State Highway 318 Twice a year this, this 90-mile stretch of road north of Las Vegas closes for the Nevada Open Road Challenge and the Silver State Classic Challenge. Montana: Missoula to Lochsa Lodge This route, a favorite of Hellgate Corvette Club, starts in Missoula and ends about 50 miles west at Lochsa Lodge. California: San Mateo to Santa Cruz It's only natural that one of the Northern California Corvette Club's favorite cruises runs along California 1. Georgia: Calhoun to Trenton To escape from traffic and tourists, the Classic Glass Corvette Club journeys up to Northwest Georgia for one of it's favorite routes.

Chevrolet Colorado is MotorTrend's 2024 Truck of the Year

A repeat for Colorado: The mid-size pickup also earned MotorTrend’s prestigious award in 2015 and 2016. The all-new Chevrolet Colorado beat a crowded field to win the coveted “Golden Calipers” as MotorTrend’s 2024 Truck of the Year. This latest award marks the third time Colorado came out on top in MotorTrend’s Truck of the Year competition following the mid-size truck’s win in 2015 and 2016. MotorTrend credited the Colorado’s modern interior, versatile bed and strong feature content, on top of incredible off-road capability across the lineup, as part of its winning package. “The Colorado lineup’s performance on- and off-road, particularly the ZR2's prowess, is nothing short of exceptional, rivaling even some of the most revered off-road vehicles available,” said Ed Loh, MotorTrend Group head of editorial. “Earning MotorTrend’s Truck of the Year award is a testament to the Colorado’s all-encompassing excellence across various terrains and utility needs.” The Truck of the Year title is one of MotorTrend’s most prestigious awards and Colorado bested 13 different models this year. Eligible trucks compete across six key criteria, including safety, advancement in design and performance of intended function. “We are absolutely thrilled to see Colorado take home the MotorTrend Truck of the Year award,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. “The all-new Colorado boasts elevated performance, capability and refinement in every respect, across every trim offered. This award is a testament to Colorado’s mantra: it’s made for more.” The Colorado lineup includes Work Truck (WT), LT, Z71, ZR2 and the first-ever Trail Boss model. This lineup features three distinctive chassis stances to optimize each model’s capabilities. Together, they compose a more diverse range of choices tailored to the distinctive ways customers use their trucks for work and recreational activities, including off-roading. Colorado’s win follows MotorTrend naming the Chevrolet Blazer EV its SUV of the Year. This is the first time MotorTrend has awarded both of its coveted awards to the same brand, with Colorado and Blazer EV on top of their respective segments. The 2024 Colorado is built at General Motors’ Wentzville Assembly in Missouri. Ordering is now open for all 2024 Colorado trims, with trucks set to begin arriving at dealerships in early 2024.

Chevrolet’s full-size SUVs are truly designed and engineered for its customers. The new 2025 Tahoe and Suburban are no exception; key highlights and features include: Freshened exterior design with bolder signature lighting and all-new lighting animations, new available 24-inch wheels and more New interior design centered on an all-new best-in-segment 17.7-inch-diagonal central touchscreen, along with an enhanced High Country interior and additional refinements across the lineup New, available second-generation 3.0L turbo-diesel Duramax engine with 10 percent more horsepower than current models, which will be available later in production Ride and handling enhancements engineered for greater driving refinement Enhanced safety and technology includes Connected Cameras, a fully integrated network of cameras that allow customers to remotely view the interior and exterior of their vehicle, in addition to recording events like crash and theft. Some features may require an OnStar plan More curb appeal The 2025 Tahoe and Suburban feature a new look, framed by a fresh front-end design that’s distinguished with new, bolder lighting. All six trims — LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier and High Country — receive a new front fascia, with select trims offering unique design cues. The Z71 — one of the nameplates’ fastest-selling trims — incorporates skid plates and a high-approach front fascia, while the High Country leans in on a sport-luxury theme, with a sophisticated balance of black and Galvano chrome trim. “The new faces of Tahoe and Suburban are more expressive, borrowing inspiration from the recently refreshed Chevrolet truck lineup,” said Phil Zak, executive design director, Global Chevrolet. “They remain as versatile as ever, but with a greater emphasis on the details that have driven these large SUVs to the top of their segment.” Additional refinements contribute to a stronger, more planted stance that appears more confident, while new 24-inch wheel designs, available for the first time on RST and High Country, further contribute to the Tahoe and Suburban’s fresh style. New front and rear lighting also elevate the SUVs’ sophisticated design, with innovative technology delivered in a more refined package. Highlights include: More integrated appearance of the daytime running lights (DRLs), with a thinner yet more prominent look of the top DRL, thanks to an angled prism within the lighting signature that creates bold illumination in a sleek housing The more prominent lighting signature gives the vehicles a greater sense of personality, with the Premier and High Country trims further distinguished with standard welcome and walk-away lighting animations as well as animated swipe turn signals Dual C-shaped light designs maintain the family appearance seen in other Chevrolet vehicles Along with their new look and lighting, the 2025 Tahoe and Suburban also introduce two new exterior colors: Cypress Gray and Lakeshore Blue Metallic. Revamped, tech-focused interior The new Tahoe and Suburban feel airier and more spacious, with a revamped interior that emulates the technology focus of other recently introduced Chevrolet models. Sweeping lines and lowering the instrument panel increase the perceived space for driver and front row passenger. Display screens are the centerpiece of the cabin, starting with an all-new standard 17.7-inch-diagonal freeform infotainment screen paired with the 11-inch-diagonal driver information center. The screen is canted slightly toward the driver for a more commanding feeling of control, while still prioritizing easy access for the front-seat passenger. Designed to be intuitive without sacrificing a clean, sleek design, the team struck the careful balance of physical and digital controls in the cockpit. Additional interior highlights include: Redesigned center console with new storage options and a repositioned, more convenient wireless charging pad New steering wheel design Unique interior with Victory Red stitching on RST and all-new Jet Black/Sky Cool Gray interior on Premier More sophisticated décor across the lineup, including Piano Black and Galvano chrome, as well as more soft-touch and wrapped materials on select trims Upgraded and more refined High Country interior, with authentic wood décor — a first for Tahoe and Suburban — along with wingtip perforated leather seating surfaces, a unique steering wheel, “High Country” identification and a unique Jet Black/Mocha color combination More powerful diesel engine Also new is the refined, second-generation 3.0L inline-six turbo-diesel Duramax 2, which offers more power for greater confidence on the road — particularly when trailering. It is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and is offered on all retail trims, including Z71 for the first time. Launched previously on the Silverado 1500, the new diesel engine is rated at 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of peak torque, increases of 10 percent and 7.6 percent, respectively, over the current diesel engine’s 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. A retuned turbo compressor, along with new, higher-flow fuel injectors, revised piston-cooling oil jets, new steel pistons and improved temperature control features with the cooling system’s Active Thermal Management contribute to the engine’s enhanced power, while new sound absorption materials and a tuned air induction system help balance its performance with quietness and improved refinement. A 5.3L gas V-8 remains the standard engine for LS, LT, RST, Z71 and Premier. The 6.2L V-8 is standard on High Country and available on RST, Z71 and Premier. The new diesel engine will be available in 2025 after initial launch. Ride-and-handling refinements The multilink independent rear suspension design introduced on the current Tahoe and Suburban has been updated to provide more refined ride-and-handling dynamics. Additional steering calibration improvements offer a confident drive experience across conditions. “The already excellent ride-and-handling characteristics enabled by the independent rear suspension are taken to the next level with the 2025 Tahoe and Suburban,” said Martin Hayes, chief engineer. “Their responsiveness makes them feel much nimbler than their full-size dimensions suggest.” Additionally, Air Ride Adaptive Suspension and Magnetic Ride Control return as available features. The Air Ride Adaptive Suspension is available on High Country and Z71, along with RST for the first time. It offers automatic load-leveling and ride-height adjustment. In highway driving, it automatically lowers the ride height to help reduce aerodynamic drag, which can help enhance efficiency. Driver-selectable heights can reduce entry/exit heights when the vehicle is parked and the driver can also raise the body for additional ground clearance when driving off-road. With Magnetic Ride Control, which is standard on Premier and High Country and available on RST and Z71, sensors continually “read” the road 1,000 times a second to alter the damping rate of the shocks almost instantly. It is one of the fastest-reacting damping systems in the industry and helps reduce pitch, body roll and vibrations that can resonate in a large SUV. Tow with confidence Towing is important for Tahoe and Suburban customers. Whether it’s a driver’s first time towing or they are a seasoned driver who tows frequently, Chevrolet’s suite of trailering technology upgrades boost confidence behind the wheel. Tahoe and Suburban will continue to include the trailering technologies customers know and love. A Max Trailering packageis available and on select trims includes a high-capacity radiator and cooling fan, an integrated trailer brake controller, Hitch Views, Hill Decent Control, Blind Zone Steering Assist with Trailering, and the Chevrolet Trailering App. Tahoe and Suburban will also introduce the following new and enhanced features: Trailer Tire Health, which helps prevent trailer tire blowouts with a trailer tire life monitor and over-speed warning Mobile Trailering App Load Rating Info, which offers anytime/anywhere access to the vehicle’s load rating Forward Path Indication, which helps drivers navigate with their trailer with guidelines on the Surround View to indicate the width of the trailer and the trailer’s path. When the turn signal is activated, guidelines will show the driver the estimated turning path for both the vehicle and trailer Boat Ramp Assist, which helps customers access a checklist and step-by-step instructions to prepare for towing, launching, and retrieving a boat, is newly available within the trailering app Trailer Navigation, which calculates routes based on trailer size using built-in Google Maps The 2025 Tahoe continues to offer max towing range of 8,400 lbs 6 and Suburban offers 8,200 lbs. Enhanced safety and technology When it comes to safety and driver awareness technology, the 2025 Tahoe and Suburban are expected to offer more than ever — including a new sensor that can detect certain types of motion in the vehicle, which can help identify if a passenger has been left in rear passenger areas of the vehicle. “We want to help families by introducing a feature that may help them remember their precious cargo in the back seats,” explains Tricia Morrow, head of Global Safety Technology Strategy at GM. “This feature is a testament to GM’s commitment to developing innovative safety technology.” Interior Motion Detection is new to GM and may detect certain types of micro-movements in the cabin. If movement is detected in the vehicle after it is in park and turned off, it can progressively escalate alerts to help raise awareness. Connected Cameras, a newly available feature, comprises a fully integrated network of cameras that allow customers to remotely view the interior and exterior of their vehicle, including 360 degree views of the exterior. Key benefits include automatic Crash Recording; Security Recording; Live View; My Recordings (dash cam functionality); industry-first cloud storage and more. Camera views and recordings are accessible via the myChevrolet mobile app. Some features require an appropriate OnStar plan. Tahoe and Suburban will continue to offer standard Chevy Safety Assist — a suite of safety features and driver assistance technologies that include: Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, and IntelliBeam. Additional standard safety features include Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist, HD Surround Vision, Teen Driver and Buckle to Drive. Additional safety and driver convenience technology highlights include: Super Cruise: The industry’s first true hands-free driving driver assistance technology will be available in 2025 after initial launch. Super Cruise is available on more than 400,000 miles of roads in the U.S. and Canada. AutoSense Power Liftgate: This feature makes loading a Tahoe or Suburban easier when the user’s arms are full by automatically opening the liftgate when it senses the key fob behind the vehicle. The 2025 Tahoe and Suburban are connected by OnStar to elevate the in-vehicle experience with a variety of available safety, entertainment and convenience features, including Super Cruise functionality, 24/7 access to live OnStar advisors, on-demand vehicle diagnostics, HD streaming, and more. Built exclusively by GM’s Arlington Assembly Team Production will take place at GM’s Arlington Assembly plant, in Texas— a facility celebrating 70 years of production in 2024. Announced earlier this year, GM is investing more than $500 million in the Texas facility to strengthen its industry-leading full-size SUV business. Through this more than half-a-billion-dollar investment, Arlington Assembly will receive new tooling and equipment in its stamping, body shop and general assembly areas. GM has announced nearly $2 billion in investments for Arlington Assembly since 2013. The all-new 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban go on sale late next year. Niron Magnetics Investment Announcement

GM Ventures and Niron Magnetics Pursue Affordable, Sustainable EV Motor Magnets

Latest collaboration builds on GM’s goal to establish a more secure, sustainable, North American-focused EV supply chain GM is deeply committed to an all-electric future, and to make that future a reality, we’re focused on developing a broad portfolio of affordable and sustainable electric vehicles. EV motors are a key element of our Ultium Platform — their magnets present a great opportunity to reduce cost and environmental impact compared to traditional magnet materials, while localizing our EV supply chain in North America. The permanent magnets in EV motor rotors are typically made from rare earth minerals like terbium, dysprosium, praseodymium and neodymium, which are expensive and currently processed almost entirely overseas. Niron Magnetics of Minneapolis has developed the world’s first and only permanent magnet with automotive-grade power that is entirely free from critical materials, including rare or heavy rare earth minerals. Niron’s proprietary Clean Earth Magnet ® technology is based on iron nitride, an abundant and affordable material with great potential for commercial use in future EVs. “We believe Niron’s unique technology can play a key role in reducing rare earth minerals from EV motors and help us further scale our North American-based supply chain for EVs,” said Anirvan Coomer, president of GM Ventures. “Our path to an all-electric future will be enabled not only by our own research and development efforts, but also by investing in next generation technology from startups and established companies outside our four walls.” GM and Niron have completed a strategic partnership agreement to co-develop Clean Earth Magnet motor technology that can be used in future GM EVs. GM Ventures has also made an investment in Niron, which will join the ranks of its 30-plus portfolio companies. The investment will support the scaling of Niron’s manufacturing and commercialization of their sustainable magnets. “GM invented rare earth permanent magnets nearly 40 years ago, and now we’re working together to bring the next generation of automotive magnet technology to market,” said Jonathan Rowntree, CEO of Niron Magnetics. “We think that our Clean Earth Magnets can help GM in its goal to put everyone in an EV.”

GM Continues Push for Software Standardization to Give Customers Better Technology, Faster

GM joins COVESA to share uServices with the developer community for a seamless, shared software solution General Motors announced today that it is contributing a vehicle services definition called “uServices” to the automotive software developer community. uServices aims to standardize software interfaces to securely access vehicle systems from anywhere in an OEM’s vehicle ecosystem. This standardized interface and associated programming model enables efficient development of distributed software required by Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs). GM is contributing uServices by joining the Connected Vehicle Systems Alliance ( COVESA), a global, member-driven alliance focused on the development of open standards and technologies that accelerate innovation for connected vehicle systems. “General Motors intends to play a leading role in unifying a global community of creative developers while reducing the time it takes for the industry, from automotive manufacturers to suppliers, to develop and integrate these features,” said Frank Ghenassia, executive chief architect of Software Defined Vehicles at General Motors. “By sharing existing technologies now in production, GM hopes to accelerate the development of an ecosystem that we can leverage to integrate third-party software at reduced engineering cost. This, in turn, can help lower the cost for customers and reduce time to market while opening the door for customers to gain access to more applications 1.” This complements GM’s recent commitment to SDV standardization. In April, the company announced it would share uProtocol with the Eclipse Foundation, a standard with the potential to connect automotive applications and services everywhere — not just in GM products or in vehicles — but to create efficiency across phones and other devices talking to vehicles as well. While uProtocol serves as the backbone for more efficient vehicle software development across the industry, uServices is meant to set standards for interfacing with vehicle features and communicating through that backbone, serving as a standard API to abstract vehicle services, enabling a unified connected vehicle ecosystem. COVESA’s community brings extensive experience in the software services space. Introducing uProtocol and uServices across two organizations links strong areas of experience and drives more unified collaboration across a greater population of contributors. “COVESA is very pleased to have GM as another global OEM actively contributing to our open-source community,” said Steve Crumb, executive director at COVESA. “uServices is a great addition to the growing set of open-source solutions hosted by COVESA and made openly available for enhancement and adoption among a growing number of automotive stakeholders.” uServices was introduced to COVESA’s Data Expert workgroup during a meeting in July 2023. GM will be contributing uServices to COVESA throughout October 2023, continuing to add to the program as it is developed.

New Electric Vehicles Are Coming from Chevy. EV Dealers Are Ready.

Participating EV dealers are undergoing training so they’ll be able to answer customers’ questions and guide them to the right vehicle choice for them. Through the Dealer Community Charging Program, GM will work with dealers to help expand charging access in their communities. Even in times of change, there are things you can count on. For decades, the first, best source of information about new Chevrolets has been your local Chevy dealer. And with a full lineup of new electric vehicles arriving by the end of the year, your local Chevy EV dealer will be ready to help anyone who’s interested in navigating the move to an EV. “Participating Chevrolet dealers are taking the right steps to modernize and support a more rapid acceleration to electric vehicles,” says Nate Giannettino, Chevrolet’s manager of EV Readiness. “Over the next year, Chevrolet EV dealers are making substantial investments to modernize their facilities.” EV-specific training “For generations, people have grown up talking about horsepower, miles per gallon,” says Logan Page, a Chevrolet dealer operator in Utah. EVs are introducing a new lexicon, and with so many more people considering electric vehicles, dealers are anticipating a broader range of questions from people arriving at dealerships. That means salespeople need to be prepared. Quarterly training, a requirement for any Chevy salesperson selling electric vehicles, is equipping them with the knowledge they need to answer customers’ questions, whether those questions are about technology, infrastructure, or battery range. EV-specific tools Through the Dealer Community Charging Program, GM is working with dealers to expand access to charging stations, including in underserved rural and urban communities. Ultimately, the goal is to add up to 40,000 public Level 2 chargers across the U.S. and Canada as part of the program. EV dealers are also making upgrades to their service departments, including additional training for the service employees and adding hoists and forklifts capable of transporting components for electric vehicles. "OVER THE NEXT YEAR, CHEVROLET EV DEALERS ARE MAKING SUBSTANTIAL INVESTMENTS TO MODERNIZE THEIR FACILITIES." — NATE GIANNETTINO Owner-specific approach Both Giannettino and Page say that one of the most common misconceptions prospective EV buyers have is about range. Some don’t realize how much range EVs can have today. Others think they need more range for their daily lives than they really do. Addressing those concerns means understanding the buyer and their needs, same as it’s always been. “That’s a lot of our initial interview with guests when they come through the doors: Finding out what they’re using their vehicle for and making sure we’re acting as a real-life consultant and a professional, and not just an order-taker or just selling them what we have,” Page says. “We’re explaining the benefits based on what they’re telling us they need and what product seems to fit that mold.” And that’s a service that hasn’t changed, isn’t changing, and won’t ever change.

The successful deployment of Google Cloud’s AI in GM’s OnStar service has now opened the door to future generative AI deployments being jointly piloted by GM and Google Cloud. “Generative AI has the potential to revolutionize the buying, ownership, and interaction experience inside the vehicle and beyond, enabling more opportunities to deliver new features and services,” said Mike Abbott, executive vice president, Software and Services, GM. “Our software-led approach has accelerated the creation of compelling services for our customers while driving increased efficiency across the GM enterprise. The work with Google Cloud is another example of our efforts to transform how customers engage with our products and services.” GM’s decision to collaborate with Google Cloud in exploring new, business-wide generative AI applications builds on a journey the two companies began together in 2019 when GM named its first vehicles with Google built-in. Since then, the number of GM vehicles with Google built-in has grown, giving customers easy access to Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play, directly from their vehicles’ center displays. That collaboration soon expanded to the deployment of Google Cloud’s conversational AI technology, Dialogflow. With this technology, GM’s OnStar virtual assistant is now handling more than 1 million customer inquiries a month in the U.S. and Canada and is available in most model year 2015 and newer GM vehicles connected by OnStar. “General Motors is at the forefront of deploying AI in practical and effective ways that ultimately create better customer experiences,” said Thomas Kurian, CEO, Google Cloud. “We’re looking forward to a deepened relationship and more collaboration with GM as we explore how the company uses generative AI in transformational ways.” GM’s OnStar Interactive Virtual Assistant (IVA), which launched in 2022, uses advanced AI-based, intent recognition technologies powered by the Google Cloud’s Dialogflow technology to provide OnStar Members with routing and navigation assistance, including turn-by-turn directions. The OnStar IVA assists with common inquiries initiated by the non‑emergency OnStar blue button push in GM vehicles, but also endeavors to distinguish phrases and words that may signify an emergency situation and help to quickly route the call to OnStar’s specially trained emergency Advisors. With this technology, OnStar has been better able to immediately understand a customer’s question or request the first time it is spoken, providing a response with a modern, natural sounding voice. Customers hear the same familiar OnStar “voice” whether they are sitting in their vehicle or calling on the phone and have reacted positively to experiences on calls without hold times. With the OnStar IVA successfully helping GM customers requesting navigation assistance, OnStar Advisors have been able to spend more time with customers with requests that require a human touch. Additionally, GM is leveraging Google Cloud’s Dialogflow technology to deploy chatbots that can conversationally help answer customer questions about GM vehicles and product features based on the technical information from GM’s extensive vehicle data repositories. With this technology, customers can get quick answers to questions like, “Tell me more about GM’s 2024 EV lineup,” or learn how to take advantage of new technology features in their vehicle. These chatbots are active across GM’s corporate and vehicle brand websites, bringing additional convenience to customers looking for specific vehicle related information. GM’s initiative to place Dialogflow into its OnStar technology will earn technology industry recognition at Google Cloud’s annual Next event in San Francisco. Among a heavily competitive pool of companies across industries using Google Cloud technologies, GM stood out for its successful and broad deployment of AI, earning it a “Talent Transformation” award.

EV Interiors Go Tech-Centric

This article originally appeared in Chevrolet's online magazine, New Roads. Blazer EV and Equinox EV interiors and screens reinvent what Chevys can look like. An expansive 17.7-inch diagonal free-form display screen tilted toward the driver will be standard on Blazer EV and available on Equinox EV. Interior designers focused on integrating the tech in a way that optimizes the owner experience. Looking inside Chevrolet’s all-electric SUVs, most people notice the expansive display screen or modern, minimalistic feel. Arthur Louro, however, sees each individual stitch, air vent, and seam. Louro is a creative designer at Chevrolet who helped design the interiors of the Blazer EV (SS, shown, available fall 2023) and Equinox EV (available starting fall 2023). "WE WANTED TO FOCUS ON THE TECHNOLOGY AND MAKING THE INTERIOR FLOW NICELY AROUND THAT." — ARTHUR LOURO He and other designers were presented with no small task: design all-new interiors and infotainment software from the ground up. The results — interiors that are sporty, premium, and tech-centric — are a big step forward. INSPIRED INTERIOR The creative design teams looked for inspiration in places where minimalism is paired with a premium feel, such as in consumer electronics, and even jet engines and analog watches. Click or tap the hotspots to learn more. While every detail was scrutinized, the big focus remained on integrating the tech with the interior. “The goal was to utilize and enhance the technology as much as we could,” Louro says. “We wanted to focus on the technology and making the interior flow nicely around that.” Achieving that meant close collaboration with the team working on the software that powers both the center touch-screen and the Driver Information Center, where the gauge clusters appear. RECONFIGURABLE GAUGE CLUSTER The appearance of the gauge cluster can be configured depending on the current driving mode and style. That collaboration resulted in eliminating some physical buttons and placing their function within the available touch-screen, along with tilting the screen toward the driver, centering this eye-catching piece of tech in the SUVs. How those buttons appear — and where — was just one of the challenges that Ki Hyun Ahn’s team had to solve. Ahn is the creative director of the user experience (UX) team and oversees the visual execution of infotainment systems. Ahn says that as the displays in vehicles become one of the focal points of the interior, the software behind them has become that much more important. So Ahn’s team redesigned many of the system components, including icons and fonts, while keeping Chevrolet’s existing brand identity front of mind. Both the UX software designers and interior designers know that experiences are made from details. When it comes to the Blazer EV and Equinox EV, no detail has been overlooked.
