Chevrolet Introduces All-New 2021 Tahoe and Suburban

Transformed to offer more of the people- and cargo-hauling capabilities that have distinguished the industry’s best-selling full-size SUVs for generations. Chevrolet’s iconic people and cargo haulers begin a new chapter today with the introduction of the all-new 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban. Each has been redesigned to be the ultimate SUV – offering the most interior space of any SUV, exclusive technologies and features, and the best driving dynamics in the full-size segment. “There are no vehicles like Tahoe and Suburban – which have starred in Hollywood movies, carried military heroes and world leaders, and helped create countless family memories,” said Barry Engle, executive vice president and president, General Motors North America. “We’ve taken what people love about these pioneering SUVs and made them even better – adding more room for people and cargo, more advanced technology and unrivaled driving experience.” This was achieved through a complete transformation of Chevrolet’s full-size SUVs, combining the strongest aspects of its new full-size truck architecture with entirely new systems tailored to the needs of today’s SUV drivers and passengers. These changes result in: Class-leading interior space: Sixty-six percent more cargo room behind the third row for Tahoe, and 19 percent more maximum cargo space behind the first row for Suburban – both best-in-class Ten additional inches (254 mm) of third-row legroom for Tahoe Dramatically improved driving dynamics: The most advanced suspension in the segment, with an independent rear suspension paired with available Magnetic Ride Control and first-in-class Air Ride Adaptive Suspension New Air Ride Adaptive Suspension offers load leveling at all four corners of the vehicle, and up to 4 inches (102 mm) of ride-height adjustment An entirely new SUV-specific interior offering up to five display screens in total: Standard 10-inch (254 mm) diagonal central color touchscreen, the largest in its segment Available 8-inch (203 mm) diagonal instrument cluster Available 15-inch (381 mm) Head-Up Display, which no competitor offers Available dual 12.6-inch (320 mm) diagonal rear-seat LCD displays, part of the segment’s most advanced rear-seat media system Thirty safety and driver convenience features, highlighted by standard Automatic Emergency Braking1 and new features, including HD Surround Vision¹ and Rear Pedestrian Alert 1 Technologies to optimize performance and efficiency, including: All-new 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel engine, delivering an unprecedented combination of refinement, performance and efficiency Updated V-8 engines with Dynamic Fuel Management, including the available 6.2L V-8 offering best-in-class 420 horsepower Standard 10-speed automatic transmission for all engines with push-button electronic shift Best-in-class nine camera views and new trailering features designed to help improve the driver’s experience and confidence, including trailer profiles, trailer tire pressure/temperature monitoring and Side Blind Zone Alert 1 for trailering “With an increasing number of SUVs on the market, we knew the all-new Tahoe and Suburban needed to reach higher than ever,” said Tim Herrick, vice president, global product programs. “We transformed Tahoe and Suburban to offer all-new technologies and features and deliver a better driving experience, while staying true to the versatility and capability that have earned people’s trust for generations.” The 2021 Tahoe and Suburban go on sale in mid-2020 in North America, joining the new Silverado and Silverado HD to completely redesign Chevrolet’s full-size truck and SUV lineup within 24 months. Ultimate SUVs built on an all-new chassis The changes for the all-new Tahoe and Suburban began with a new architecture featuring an independent rear suspension and longer wheelbase. The new architecture targeted improvements central to the needs of full-size SUV customers, including passenger accommodations, cargo capacity, driving dynamics and exterior proportions. The longer wheelbase and new chassis systems create greater ride smoothness, particularly on uneven pavement and unpaved surfaces, with improved handling. The vehicles’ load floors are significantly lower, providing a more natural seating position and a remarkable gain of 10 inches (254 mm) of third-row legroom, with big increases in cargo space. Tahoe: The leader expands with 66 percent more cargo space Already America’s best-selling full-size SUV, accounting for more than 25 percent of the segment, the redesigned, fifth-generation 2021 Tahoe features substantially more usable space.  With a 4.9-inch (125 mm) longer wheelbase and a 6.7-inch (169 mm) increase in overall length compared to the current model, Tahoe offers 40 percent more third-row legroom and 66 percent greater cargo volume behind the third row. The space gain is achieved efficiently; while maximum cargo room increases 30 percent, Tahoe’s overall length increased less than 4 percent. The 2021 Tahoe offers 25 percent more cargo room behind the third-row seat than the 2020 Ford Expedition (20.9 cubic feet). 2020 Tahoe 2021 Tahoe Change Wheelbase (inches) 116 120.9 +4.9 Overall Length (inches) 204 210.7 +6.7 Legroom – Second Row (inches) 39.0 42.0 +3 Legroom – Third Row (inches) 24.8 34.9 +10.1 Cargo Room Behind Third Row (cubic feet) 15.3 25.5 +10.2 Max Cargo Room (cubic feet) 94.7 122.9 +28.2 Suburban: The legend advances with even more interior space As the longest-running nameplate in automotive history at 85 years, Suburban established the segment and remains a trusted partner for customers who need maximum space. With a 4.1-inch (105 mm) increase in the wheelbase and a lower cargo floor, the new Suburban has the most passenger and cargo space of any SUV. Legroom increases for both the second- and third-row passengers, and maximum cargo volume expands 19 percent while Suburban’s overall length increases less than 1 percent. 2020 Suburban 2021 Suburban Change Wheelbase (inches) 130 134.1 +4.1 Overall Length (inches) 224.4 225.7 +1.3 Legroom – Second Row (inches) 39.7 42 +2.3 Legroom – Third Row (inches) 34.5 36.7 +2.2 Cargo Room Behind Third Row (cubic feet) 39.3 41.1 +1.8 Max Cargo Room (cubic feet) 121.7 144.7 +23 For the first time, Tahoe and Suburban’s second-row seat can slide, adjusting approximately 5.5 inches (140 mm) forward or rearward. Both the second- and third-row seats also fold more easily, and the load floor is now both flatter and lower than prior models – improving the ease of loading and unloading. The rear-door openings for the Tahoe are also larger, thanks to the increase in wheelbase. Compromise-free performance The 2021 Tahoe and Suburban are powered by V-8 engines that are among the most advanced in Chevrolet’s history, as well as an all-new Duramax turbo-diesel engine. All are matched with a new 10-speed automatic transmission with electronic shift control. A 5.3L V-8 rated at 355 horsepower (265 kilowatts) is standard on LS, LT, Z71, RST, and Premier models; and a 6.2L V-8 rated at 420 horsepower (313 kW) is standard on High Country. Both feature industry-first Dynamic Fuel Management technology, with more than 12 modes of cylinder deactivation that are designed to optimize engine efficiency across a broad range of driving conditions, including when towing a trailer. The engines also feature automatic stop/start technology, direct injection and variable valve timing, which all contribute to the balance of performance and efficiency. The optional Duramax 3.0L inline-six turbo-diesel is available on all models except Z71. It is a clean-sheet engine design developed for full-size truck and SUV applications, where torque means everything for confident, on-demand power and trailering capability. The Duramax is rated at 277 horsepower (207 kW) and a strong 460 lb-ft (623 Nm) of torque. No full-size SUV competitor offers a diesel engine. It is expected to give the new SUVs some of the highest fuel economy ratings in the segment. Highly durable materials make up the 3.0L Duramax’s critical components, including iron cylinder liners within the aluminum engine block, a forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods, and blended silicon/aluminum pistons for greater heat resistance and reduced expansion. Because trailering is important to many full-size SUV customers, the new Tahoe and Suburban include new trailering technologies pioneered by the Silverado pickups. A Max Trailering package is available and includes a high-capacity radiator and cooling fan, an integrated trailer brake controller, a Hitch Guidance with Hitch View feature and the Chevrolet trailering app. Tahoe and Suburban drivers will have up to nine camera views – more than any competitive full-size SUV. The available features are designed to help improve the trailering experience with easier hitching using rear camera guidelines, bolstering confidence when towing a trailer. Additional features include a trailering app with trailer profiles, trailer tire pressure, and temperature monitoring and Side Blind Zone Alert 1 for trailering. Tahoe and Suburban will have Chevy’s industry-first trailering label that is located on the driver's side door jamb. This label provides customers with the information necessary to calculate their vehicle’s exact capacities. Most advanced available suspension in the segment To improve the driving experience, engineers for the 2021 Tahoe and Suburban developed an all-new chassis that integrates the longer wheelbase spans and the independent multilink rear suspension. In addition, the all-new models offer both the Air Ride Adaptive Suspension system and Magnetic Ride Control – not offered by any competitor – that deliver even greater body control. “I think the most impressive aspect of the all-new Tahoe and Suburban is how well they handle,” said Herrick. “Despite being big, they offer responsive, confidence-inspiring handling that will change expectations for the full-size SUV driving experience.” The independent multilink rear suspension fundamentally transforms the driving dynamics of the Tahoe and Suburban, allowing each rear wheel to handle road conditions separately to dramatically enhance ride quality, steering responsiveness and overall driver control, compared to the previous live axle design. Tahoe and Suburban’s new multilink independent rear suspension, which is composed of three lateral arms, a large longitudinal arm, coil springs and a robust stabilizer bar, offers the ride sophistication and isolating characteristics typically associated with smaller vehicles but scaled for the superior capability requirements of full-size SUVs. The Air Ride Adaptive Suspension is available on High Country and Z71 models and delivers automatic load-leveling and ride-height adjustment. The ride-height can adjust up to 4 inches (101 mm). In highway driving, the system automatically lowers the ride height ¾-inch (19 mm) to improve aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. A driver-selectable setting lowers the suspension 2 inches (51 mm) to aid passenger entry and exit when the vehicle is parked. Drivers can also raise the body for additional ground clearance when driving off-road by 1 inch (25 mm) at low speeds in 4WD HI, and an additional 1 inch (25 mm) at lower speeds in 4WD LO. Tahoe and Suburban feature one of the industry’s most sophisticated chassis technologies in Magnetic Ride Control, which is standard on Premier and High Country, and available on Z71. It is one of the fastest-reacting damping systems in the industry, using sensors to continually “read” the road and alter the damping rate of the shocks almost instantly. It reacts much faster than traditional shock absorbers to reduce bouncing, body roll, and vibrations that can often resonate in a large SUV. Expanded range of standard and available safety technologies Chevrolet is expanding key safety and driver awareness features for the all-new Tahoe and Suburban, with Automatic Emergency Braking 1 standard on all models. A recent study by University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute analyzed the effectiveness of active safety technologies, showing dramatic reductions in certain types of crashes on vehicles equipped with advanced safety features, including a 21 percent reduction in crashes with Forward Collision Alert. Tahoe and Suburban have 30 safety and driver convenience technologies, just some of which include: Restraint system with driver inboard seat-mounted side-impact airbag 2 and Passenger Sensing System HD Rear Vision Camera 1 Automatic Emergency Braking 1 Forward Collision Alert 1 Following Distance Indicator 1 Front Pedestrian Braking 1 Rear Park Assist 1 IntelliBeam automatic headlamp control 1 Hitch Guidance for trailering 1 Available technologies include new HD Surround Vision 1, new Rear Pedestrian Alert 1, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert with enhancements for trailering, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning 1, Front and Rear Park Assist 1 and Head-Up Display. 1 Unprecedented connectivity and configurability. The all-new Tahoe and Suburban’s interiors have larger displays, more connectivity options and a new rear-seat media system designed to keep even the most tech-savvy family members satisfied throughout their road trips. The Chevrolet infotainment system 3 is the centerpiece and it leads major competitors with a large, 10-inch-diagonal color touchscreen. It’s one of five connected and configurable screens offered in the redesigned SUVs: Chevrolet infotainment system 3 with a 10-inch-diagonal color touchscreen is standard An 8-inch-diagonal, configurable color instrument and information cluster is standard on Premier and High Country; a 4.2-inch-diagonal color driver information center is standard on LS, LT, RST and Z71 A 15-inch diagonal Head-Up Display, not offered by competitors, with a 3 x 7-inch color display is standard on High Country and available on Premier An available rear-seat media package includes dual 12.6-inch-diagonal LCD touchscreens The new rear-seat media system in Tahoe and Suburban will be the most advanced and capable in the full-size SUV segment. In addition to their 12.6-inch size, the rear screens are positioned for optimal view for both second- and third-row passengers. Each rear screen offers independent connections, so passengers can watch different content on each side. Additionally, rear passengers can share content from one screen to the other, mirror content from an Android phone to a screen and “send” navigation points of interest, like restaurant suggestions or pit stop locations, to the central infotainment screen upfront. The new Tahoe and Suburban also feature a built-in Wi-Fi® Hotspot with available 4G LTE data (3GB or 1-month data trial, whichever occurs first) 5, Apple CarPlay, 6 and Android Auto 7 capability, multiple USB charging ports 8 and, on all models except LS, wireless charging 9 with charger cooling. Digital platform for today’s technologies and tomorrow’s challenges Tahoe and Suburban’s higher level of technology is enabled by an all-new digital vehicle platform. This next-generation system has five times more data-processing power than the system in current models. It not only drives the new technologies with incredible speed but is designed to support vehicle health monitoring and the ability for over-the-air updates – with ample bandwidth to add future technologies not yet offered. The new digital platform includes industry-leading cybersecurity protections as well. Bigger, bolder proportions Chevy Truck designers created an entirely new look for Tahoe and Suburban, with a bolder stance and proportions. Six distinctive models double the trim lineup for 2021 Tahoe and Suburban, giving customers more choices and enabling designers to explore distinctive personalities across the range. Each version has a more dynamic appearance made possible by the new architecture. “The longer proportions enabled us to add more sophistication and surface detail,” said Phil Zak, executive design director, Chevrolet. “The design builds on what generations of owners have known and loved about the Tahoe and Suburban and gives them more, with confident, bolder stances that remain reassuringly familiar, but with greater detail than ever before.” The all-new interior was specifically designed to take advantage of the class-leading space and technology features, with a mission to create the ultimate road trip environment. The interior is brighter thanks to expanded glass areas – including an available panoramic sunroof and class-leading display technologies – and more refined with premium materials. Additional design highlights include: Standard LED headlamps and LED taillamps Active front grille shutters that close at certain times on the highway to enhance aerodynamics Dual exhaust on Premier and High Country (with gas engine) Nine exterior colors, including three all-new colors: Empire Beige Metallic, Cherry Bomb Tintcoat and Darkmoon Blue Metallic (some color choices will be premium options) Standard 18-inch wheels on LS and LT; 20-inch polished aluminum wheels on Premier, 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires on Z71; and 22-inch wheels on RST and High Country Customers have more choices with six trim levels for Tahoe and Suburban, more than any SUV competitor. The standard LS and up-level LT trims form the basis of the lineup, with the additional trims not only providing more features, but also carrying distinct personalities, including: RST: Consistently strong response from Chevy Truck buyers encouraged designers to further emphasize the street-inspired character of the RST. The unique front fascia includes a black ice finish on the grille, while the interior includes RST-specific seats with stitching in a contrasting color. RST models include all LT content, plus black and black-chrome exterior trim, 22-inch wheels and more. Z71: Chevy’s legendary off-road-focused Z71 was a driving force in the design of the new SUVs, in terms of appearance and capability. Z71 now includes more unique visual and performance attributes than ever before. The Z71 front fascia not only signals ruggedness, but it also has a higher approach angle to aid off-road capability. 4WD is standard and includes a two-speed transfer case and Hill Descent Control, along with 20-inch wheels, all-terrain tires, front skid plate, and red tow hooks. Z71 features black and black-chrome exterior accents. Premier: Focusing on premium equipment and technology, Premier adds features such as Magnetic Ride Control, navigation, an 8-inch-diagonal reconfigurable instrument cluster, premium Bose 10-speaker audio system, 12-way power vented and perforated front bucket seats, power releases for both rows of rear seats, heated steering wheel, Safety Alert Seat 1, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert¹, Rear Cross Traffic Alert 1, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning 1, Front and Rear Park Assist 1 and 20-inch wheels. High Country: New for Tahoe and Suburban is Chevy Truck’s top-level model, customized with premium features. The design is highlighted by a unique grille with bronze accents and High Country badging. The interior includes High Country sill plates, seat embroidery, and expanded color and trim choices. High Country features the 6.2L V-8 engine with Magnetic Ride Control, 22-inch wheels with chrome inserts, and adds Rear Pedestrian Alert 1, Head-Up Display, HD Surround Vision and the Rear Camera Mirror. 1 Air Ride Adaptive Suspension and Adaptive Cruise Control 1 are available.

Warm on the Inside: Keeping Your Car Heater Working During the Winter

Image via Pexels.com As any driver who ever lived in an area with cold winters will tell you, for a few months every year, the car's heater is just as important as any other part of the vehicle. Not only is it uncomfortable and unhealthy to drive in cold temperatures, but it also keeps your windows icy and difficult to see through. Here are some tips on how to have your heater working as well as possible throughout the winter. Check your Coolant Level Before Winter It's important to know that the heat pumped into the cabin in the wintertime actually comes from the car's coolant liquid, although its main role is keeping the engine from overheating. The liquid absorbs some of the heat generated by the car's engine and the heating system uses that hot liquid to warm up the air going in the car's cabin. It's therefore natural that if you are running low on coolant, the amount of hot air keeping you warm will be reduced. During summer, the lack of coolant may overheat your engine, so it should be regularly checked. It also helps to remember that, because the heat is just a byproduct of the friction inside the engine and is not specifically generated to keep you warm, turning up the heat will not increase your gas usage. Unlike the summertime, when air conditioning requires an extra motor to create the cool air, winter heating is free and will be dissipated into the atmosphere if you don't use it. Get In and Start Moving Older cars needed some time to warm up before driving off, but modern ones don't. In fact, standing still for more than a few moments after starting the car can do way more harm than good.  Aside from potentially increasing your engine's wear and tear by forcing it to work with lubricants that have been hardened by the cold weather, it also puts a strain on your heating because the coolant liquid used to warm up the car will heat up much slower. The sooner you drive off, the less time it will take for the engine to heat up, and with it the entire heating system. This will make you and all other passengers comfortable and keep your heating system operating at optimum efficiency for a long time. Keep your Air Conditioning On Although air conditioning is naturally associated with cold air, it also does the important task of removing much of the moisture from the air. Aside from keeping your heater and air conditioning unit working properly, drying the air inside the car will help with visibility, as it will keep the car's windows from fogging up. Also, unlike the warm days of summer, the A/C won't have to work too hard, so it won't take much of a toll on your gas bill. Keeping your car warm during the winter is not only important for your comfort, but also for your health and safety. Luckily by following a few simple tips, you can have your heater working properly for a long time.

CHEVROLET SUBURBAN RECOGNIZED BY FILM INDUSTRY, GETS HOLLYWOOD S

Chevrolet Surburban First Vehicle to Receive Award of Excellence Star at Hollywood & Highland

Iconic vehicle starred in more than 1,750 films and television series since 1952 “For six decades the Chevrolet Suburban has been Hollywood’s longest-working actor,” said Rana Ghadban, president and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. “Appearing in classic feature films and on must-see television shows, the Suburban is a well-established industry mainstay. With the Chevrolet Tahoe also making an impact in movies and on television, it’s impressive to have both vehicles now join an illustrious group of actors and characters that are forever known as Hollywood legends.” During its acting career the Suburban evolved to become the ultimate character actor, able to play the hero, the villain, or the family alike. “There’s really nothing else like the Chevrolet Suburban in this business, for two reasons,” said Dennis McCarthy, Hollywood picture car coordinator. “First, it’s one of the most versatile vehicles in the business, able to fit with any type of character. Second, it can help instantly give a scene added importance. When a convoy of black Suburbans appears on screen, you know that’s not the time to leave your seat to buy popcorn.” The relationship between the Chevy Suburban and Hollywood began in 1952, when it first appeared on the silver screen. Since then, Suburban has starred in more than 1,750 films and television series. It has appeared in at least one television series every year since 1956, and at least one film every year since 1960. Suburban has also appeared in more than 30 award-nominated films. The filmography is even more impressive when combined with the Chevy Tahoe. Together, Tahoe and Suburban have appeared in more than 2,500 films and television shows. Since the Tahoe was introduced in 1995, it has appeared in at least one film and television show every year. According to Tim Kozub, design manager for Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, their on-screen persona also influenced the all-new Suburban and Tahoe, which will be unveiled later this month: “This is a great example of how life and art influence each other. The popularity of Suburban and Tahoe in film was first inspired by the real-life roles they played in the military, in law enforcement and family trips around the world. Today, their role in Hollywood inspired the design of the all-new models, as we integrated the sense of capability, action, and importance associated with Suburban and Tahoe on screen."

Tough on the Outside: Winterizing the Exterior of Your Car

Image Via Pexels.com Living in an area with cold and snowy winters can take a massive toll on your car. Different temperatures, precipitations, and chemicals used to melt the ice on the road can shorten your car's lifespan by affecting the paint, windows, wheels, and more. Luckily, however, with a bit of preparation, your car will get through the winter just fine and look just as good in March as it did in October. Here are the main exterior parts that need to be prepared for the winter. The Car's Body The car's paint is usually the most affected after a long winter. The main reason for that is the salt that is commonly used to de-ice the roads, which can also ruin your car's color. Luckily there are ways in which you can protect the paint, such as applying a paint coating. It will last up to two years and protect the paint job without any additional maintenance when applied properly. The only downside is if you want the paint coating to work as it should, the body needs to be prepared and polished beforehand. A quick and easy alternative is using synthetic paint sealants. They last up to half a year, so applying a coating of paint sealant before winter will be enough, and they are much easier to apply than paint coating. The Windshield and Wipers Driving on a snowy winter day and not being able to properly see through the car windshield is not only annoying but also potentially dangerous. Luckily there are ways in which you can keep your windshield clean and your wipers working as they should. Having a good ice scraper is crucial for any driver living in an area that's affected by snow every year and special de-icer sprays can penetrate and break the ice, making it quicker and easier to remove it before heading out on the road. Of course, after cleaning your windshield, you will need to make sure it stays that way. The only way to do that is by using special anti-freeze windshield wash, allowing you to clean your windows without the washer fluid instantly freezing on the windshield and wipers. The Tires and Wheels Although the car's body and its windows need to be protected from the harsh winter, it's the wheels and tires that do much of the work. The rubber form which the tires are made from tends to get harder in the winter, so applying a tire coating before the cold season will keep them flexible and as adherent as possible. It's also important to remember that cold weather reduces air pressure inside the tires, so you will need to make sure they are properly inflated to provide maximum grip. Cold winters can be difficult, for both cars and people. However, a bit of preparation beforehand can turn a cold and dark few months into a special time of year. So make sure you follow these simple steps for keeping your car looking great all year-round.

Chevrolet Suburban at 85: The Legacy Continues

2020 marks the 85th production year of the original, sport utility vehicle. What are your memories of the Chevrolet Suburban?? Back in 1935, the world was a vastly changing place still reeling from the effects of the Great Depression. Amidst all this, Americans still found a way to reach new heights of innovation and achievement. Movies debuted in color for the first time, baseball home run records were shattered, and the last concrete was poured at the Hoover Dam, the world’s largest at the time. That same year, Chevrolet introduced the Suburban in the United States. Still in production eight and a half decades since its debut, the Suburban has earned the title of the industry’s longest-running nameplate. In fact, Suburban is the first vehicle to reach 85 years of continuous production. “While the world has changed significantly, the Suburban is just as relevant today as it was in 1935. Suburban created the sport utility vehicle – offering unprecedented combination of passenger comfort and cargo capacity,” said Paul Edwards, Chevrolet marketing vice president. “That has earned Suburban the trust of a wide range of people – from families to law enforcement, and even a starring-role in pop culture.” “The name Suburban is so widely recognized that at various times over history it was used by a few vehicle manufacturers,” said Leslie Kendall, curator at the Petersen Automotive Museum. “But the Chevrolet Suburban – the forerunner of the modern SUV – has stood the test of time. From family road-trips to dignitary protection, to TV and film and everywhere in-between, over the last 85 years the Suburban has become a fixture of Americana.” Over the years, the Suburban has cemented its place in the hearts of many. As a beloved part of the family, trusted bodyguard and member of the armed forces, first responder and even a movie star, the original SUV has built an impressive and unrivaled legacy worthy of a celebration. The original 1935 Suburban could seat eight, while removable seats provided a large 115.1 cubic foot (3,259 L) cargo area when the second-row seats were folded and third-row seats removed. It was powered by an inline-six-cylinder engine that produced 60 horsepower. The 2020 Suburban seats up to nine and offers up to 121.7 cubic feet (3,446 L) of maximum cargo space when second and third-row seats are folded down. The available 6.2L V-8 produces 420 horsepower – seven times the power of the 1935 model – with an EPA-estimated 23 mpg highway. 85 years of innovation Car-based wagons for professional use were offered by most manufacturers throughout the early 1930s. Most of these early vehicles featured wood sides and canvas tops; and while they were versatile, their car-based platforms and damage-prone bodies were not suited for continuous commercial use. It was clear that customers required something more. Chevrolet began testing an all-steel wagon body mounted on a commercial chassis in the mid-1930s. This research and development resulted in the launch of the Suburban Carryall in 1935 – the first heavy-duty, truck-based wagon of its kind. The Suburban’s heavy-duty truck-based chassis increasingly found favor with commercial customers. In the post-World War II growth years, its popularity steadily increased with private customers who appreciated its uncompromising capabilities and dependable utility. The Suburban hit mainstream fame in the early 1990s as part of the SUV boom. While many customers were new to the Suburban, it had a legion of longtime owners over the years. From hauling Little League teams and their equipment, to towing a horse trailer on the ranch, or transporting a work crew to a job site, the Suburban had become a fixture of American culture. Generation 1 – 1935-40 The Suburban Carryall is introduced on a half-ton chassis, with a signature two-door body style that would be produced through 1967. Power came from Chevrolet’s tough “Stovebolt” inline-six that produced 60 horsepower (45 kW). In 1937, new Art Deco exterior design cues were added and power was increased to 79 horsepower (59 kW). Generation 2 – 1941-46 Production of almost all civilian vehicles halted during America’s involvement in World War II, although many Chevy trucks – including the Suburban’s body style – were produced for military duty. Generation 3 – 1947-55 Representing the first significant redesign of Chevrolet’s truck line since before the war, the Suburban was welcomed by professionals in need of an all-new workhorse. Torque from the inline-six engine was 174 lb-ft (217 Nm) at only 1,200 rpm, creating excellent towing capability. Generation 4 – 1955-59 Revolutionary new styling and technology is introduced midway through the 1955 model year. Known as the “second series” design, it featured a wraparound windshield and the elimination of running boards – the body now flush with the fenders. The biggest addition was Chevrolet’s first V-8, the legendary Small Block. In 1955, factory-installed four-wheel drive is offered for the first time, with the famous NAPCO-supplied “Powr-Pak” system. Generation 5 – 1960-66 All-new styling greeted the 1960s and Chevrolet instituted the C/K designations to denote models with 2WD (C) and 4WD (K). In 1963, a ladder-type, channel-section frame replaced the X-member, box-section frames used in previous years. With a focus on passenger comfort in 1965, factory-installed air conditioning and a rear-area heater are offered for the first time. Generation 6 – 1967-72 A redesign of Chevy’s half-ton trucks is introduced, and for the first time since its debut, the Suburban now had three doors – with a single door on the driver’s side and front and rear doors on the passenger side. This new configuration, with easier access to the cargo area, was popular with ambulance companies. Generation 7 – 1973-91 The Suburban is completely redesigned and for the first time, offered a conventional four-door body style. The wheelbase was stretched to 129.5 inches with an increased focus on interior comfort and amenities that brought more personal-use customers to Suburban. By the late-1980s, electronically controlled fuel injection and a four-speed overdrive transmission brought greater efficiency. Generation 8 – 1992-1999 An all-new Suburban featured sleek styling with flush glass and composite headlamps. Other updates included four-wheel antilock brakes, Insta-Trac “shift-on-the-fly” on four-wheel-drive models and a suspension system designed to provide a more carlike ride. In 1998, available OnStar and the full-time AutoTrac all-wheel-drive system are added. In Australia, right-hand-drive versions of the Suburban are offered through GM’s Holden brand. Generation 9 – 2000-2006 Launched in 1999 as a 2000 model, the 10th-generation Suburban brought new styling, new interiors and new powertrains. The engines included the Vortec 5.3L and 6.0L V-8s from the same Gen III Small Block family in the Corvette. New features included for first time are four-wheel disc brakes, a load-leveling suspension system and StabiliTrak electronic stability control. Generation 10 – 2007-14 The Suburban features a wind tunnel-shaped exterior and elimination of traditional chrome front and rear bumpers. More efficient, comfortable and capable than ever, the Suburban continued to offer customers uncompromising capability and versatility. Safety and driver assistance feature updates included electronic trailer sway control, Hill Start Assist and available Side Blind Zone Alert 1. Generation 11 – 2015-Present Completely redesigned to be more functional and refined, while offering more features and a greater range of advanced technologies, the current Suburban is also more efficient, thanks to a range of enhancements that include a more aerodynamic design and a new, direct-injected EcoTec3 5.3L engine. Improved aerodynamics also contributes to a quieter interior. A bevy of standard customer-focused technology features like 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot (requires available data plan) 2, Apple CarPlay 3 and Android Auto 4 are also added.

New Changes Are Coming for the 2021 Colorado

Original Image Via Chevrolet.com Chevrolet recently announced some changes to the upcoming 2021 Colorado. Take a look at some of the design and functionality enhancements that will make this popular pickup truck even more appealing to buyers in the midsize truck segment. Front End Changes Part of the reason Chevrolet is making major updates to the Colorado is to help differentiate the available trim levels. In order to separate the top-level ZR2 trim from the WT, LT, and Z71 trims, the lower three trims will feature a new lower fascia and grille design, helping them to stand out. The ZR2 has a more rugged lower fascia that combines the front bumper and grille seamlessly, along with a new set of red tow hooks that complement the other off-roading features. These include front and rear electronically locking differentials, a track that adds an extra 3.5-inches in width, a 2-inch lift, skid plates, and Multimatic dampers. Power and Performance Although Chevrolet hasn't released official details on what will be found beneath the hood, it is expected that the impressive powertrains will carry over into the 2021 lineup. These powertrains include a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder rating at 200 horsepower, a 2.8-liter inline turbocharged four-cylinder diesel powered engine that makes 186 horsepower, and a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that pumps out 308 horsepower. Unique Look From the Rear On the back of the 2021 Colorado, you'll also notice a new and improved tailgate. This tailgate has the brand name embossed on it in large letters, replacing the logo that is featured on the previous models. The result of this upgrade is a more aggressive looking rear that may bring back memories of the Chevy truck lineup from the 1990s. This new tailgate is also available with Chevy's EZ Lift functionality, which makes it easier to raise and lower. The functionality includes an internal torsion bar that simplifies the raising and lowering movements and a rotary damper which allows for a gradual lowering motion when it opens, giving you more control over the movement. Interior Features Although Chevy doesn't plan to make any major updates to the cabin of the Colorado, it's fairly well-equipped with appealing features. On the base trim, you get work-ready features including vinyl upholstery and flooring, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, dual USB ports, a six-speaker audio system, and a 7-inch screen with GM's new Infotainment 3 system. Additional available features include a larger 8-inch screen, extra USB ports, satellite radio, heated seats, automatic climate control, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and navigation. On the safety side, you can also get the truck equipped with forward-collision warning, lane departure warning, and a rearview camera. At Burien Chevrolet, we have an extensive lineup of brand-new models from the Chevy lineup. When the redesigned 2021 Colorado becomes available, we'll have it available on our lot for you to test drive, allowing you to experience these appealing features for yourself. Keep an eye out for when this stylish new model arrives at our dealership and stop by to decide whether it's the right pickup for your needs.
