Chevrolet drives into the SEMA Show this week led by The Chevy Beast — a concept vision of the ultimate in high-performance desert running. Conceived to demonstrate the capability of Chevy trucks and Chevrolet Performance components, The Chevy Beast concept is a four-passenger off-roader that’s based on a modified Silverado chassis, wears a customized pickup body and is powered by a Chevrolet Performance LT4 650-horsepower supercharged crate engine. “The Chevy Beast concept takes the popularity of high-performance off-road trucks to the next level,” said Jim Campbell, GM U.S. vice president of Performance and Motorsports. “It’s a vision for a new dimension of Chevrolet Performance capability from a brand that’s been pioneering performance and supporting customer personalization for more than 50 years.” Expanded dimensions of Chevy Trucks’ capability are explored in several additional trucks and SUVs on display at the SEMA Show, including: 2022 Silverado ZR2 2022 Silverado High Country Midnight Concept 2022 Silverado 3500HD Hoonigan Concept 2022 Colorado ZR2 Extreme Off-Road 2022 Colorado Z71 Off-Road Performance Edition 2022 Tahoe Z71 Overlanding Concept 2021 Suburban Street Concept More details on all the Chevrolet vehicles and accessories at SEMA are available www.ChevySEMA.com. Superior capability, control and performance The Chevy Beast was designed to dominate the desert with capabilities, control and performance rooted in a production-based foundation and off-the-shelf performance enhancements. Designers and engineers started with the chassis of a Silverado short-bed model and modified it for high-speed desert running. The frame was shortened and a custom-designed, 4130 chromoly tubular safety structure was integrated while the modified chassis was wrapped with a custom, lightweight body. A concept, long-travel off-road suspension system was also created for the vehicle, including a five-link rear suspension. Along with a widened, 91-inch track, it contributes to more stable handling and optimal driver control during high-speed off-road driving. “There’s nothing else like The Chevy Beast,” says Jeff Trush, GM program manager, Pace Car and Specialty Show Vehicles. “It delivers a ton of performance and capability, which makes it adept at conquering rough terrain — and it flat-out flies in desert running.” That high-speed capability is derived from a Chevrolet Performance LT4 crate engine 1 — a 6.2L supercharged V-8 that’s rated at 650 hp. It’s backed by a 10L90 10-speed automatic transmission that sends torque to a two-speed transfer case and distributes it to 37-inch-tall off-road tires mounted on 20-inch beadlock wheels. The concept also includes the Chevrolet Performance Big Brake Upgrade System. The Chevy Beast’s impressive capability is complemented with equally dramatic and purposeful style. Tubular doors and a simple, lightweight clamshell-type front end reflect the functionality and aesthetic of desert running while the rear of the vehicle was intentionally designed with almost no overhang to maximize the angle of attack on steep grades. A pair of spare tires are mounted in the bed while the rear of the vehicle itself is left open to help extract dust. Additional unique design cues include a custom front grille, front and rear bowtie emblems and powerful off-road lighting from Baja Designs®. Inside, the customized cab has a minimalist, functional design, featuring a quartet of Recaro® performance seats with four-point harnesses, as well as a pair of 7-inch-diagonal LCD screens that monitor vehicle functions and performance data, including pitch and roll during off-road driving scenarios. “The Chevy Beast concept sets a new standard for off-road performance,” said Trush. The new Silverado ZR2 at the SEMA Show is shown with concept black badging, along with available Rock Protection Sliders and a Chevrolet Performance Steel Driveshaft. 2022 Silverado High Country Midnight concept — The High Country is the premium expression of the revamped 2022 Silverado lineup, and the High Country Midnight Edition concept builds on its elevated levels of content and style with darkened design cues. They include concept blacked-out grille insert, along with black badging and black 22-inch Accessory wheels. There’s also a power-operated tonneau cover, and a Multi-Flex Tailgate Audio System by KICKER®. There is also a Brembo® front brake kit (with red, six-piston calipers), and black exhaust bezels from Chevrolet Performance. 2022 Silverado 3500HD Hoonigan concept — Serving as the tow vehicle for the 1988 Camaro Hoonigan concept, the 2022 Silverado 3500HD Hoonigan concept truck is based on a High Country Crew Cab model and powered by the Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V-8 engine. The concept is based on the strongest, most capable Silverado ever and employs advanced trailering 3 technology, with up to 15 available camera views 4 and an Advanced Trailering System. This concept version is also outfitted with Gooseneck/5th Wheel Prep Package, along with a number of accessories and custom graphics that give it a distinctive appearance. 2022 Colorado ZR2 Extreme Off-Road — Since 2017, the Colorado ZR2 has been a force in the Best in the Desert racing series, with Chad Hall Racing using the production-based truck to help validate production and performance parts. In fact, it is the only truck in its class to have finished every race entered, and it has accumulated more than 22,500 miles of racing experience. This production-based Colorado ZR2 Extreme Off-Road is a reflection of that real-world experience and showcases the extensive roster of competition-proven parts available from Chevrolet Performance, including front and rear jounce shocks, long-travel shock kits, long-travel leaf springs, an anti-wrap link system and more. 2022 Colorado Z71 Off-Road Performance Edition — This production-based Colorado Z71 pushes its off-road capability nearly to a ZR2 level thanks to the available Trail Boss Package that includes a 1-inch suspension leveling kit, front and mid-vehicle skid plates, 17-inch wheels in Gloss Black, red tow hooks and the elimination of the front air dam. It also demonstrates the overlanding and camping capabilities enabled by a number of Chevrolet Accessories and Chevrolet Performance components, all of which are available through the Chevrolet dealer, including a High Country 55-inch Rooftop Tent by Freespirit Recreation5, a camp kitchen and more. 2022 Tahoe Z71 Overlanding concept — Envisioned as the go-anywhere SUV for adventure and discovery, this concept builds on the Tahoe Z71’s capability, including the available Four-Corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension, and augments it with 33-inch tires mounted on concept 18-inch beadlock wheels, an Off Road Recovery Kit, auxiliary A-pillar off-road lights, a lifted suspension and AirDesign 6 fender flares, as well as a Dometic powered dual-zone cooler and Freespirit Recreation 55-inch rooftop tent. The concept also strikes a more distinctive pose with black nameplates, a Front Illuminated Bowtie emblem in black, and Illuminated Front and Rear Door Sill Plates with Tahoe Script, all available from Chevrolet Accessories. 2021 Suburban Street concept — Chevrolet Performance engineers elevated the stature of this Suburban concept by lowering its ride height thanks to the adjustable settings of its available Four Corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension. A set of 24-inch, custom-cut and polished billet aluminum wheels wrapped with 285/30R24 Pirelli tires complete the streetwise stance and is complemented with an available Chevrolet Performance Brembo® brake upgrade system. Select Chevrolet Accessories and Performance parts also were used to distinguish this stylized vision, including black mirror caps and badge, an all-new black grille with the Chevrolet script, matte black hood decal and Bowtie-logo puddle lamps. Inside are illuminated door sills, an illuminated liftgate sill plate, cargo organizer and sport pedals. SuperMatic™ 6L80-E 4WD Transmission For off-road project vehicle builders, Chevrolet Performance also introduced the advanced SuperMatic™ 6L80-E six-speed automatic transmission for 4WD applications. It has the same 650-lb-ft torque rating as the rear-wheel-drive 6L80-E and works with Chevy’s Connect & Cruise Crate Powertrain System for plug-and-play compatibility with LS crate engines 1. The 4WD-specific tail mount allows customers to pair the transmission with a transfer case. Two kits are available: one with a 2,400-rpm stall converter and the other with a 3,000-rpm stall converter. Chevrolet will contribute $350 to the American Cancer Society for each lap specially-themed pace cars lead field under caution For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Chevrolet will again support the American Cancer Society by contributing to the cause $350 for every lap run under caution, with a maximum of $50,000, during three NASCAR Cup Series races in October. To also help raise awareness, a specially-themed pink “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will serve as the pace car at the NASCAR Cup Series races at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama on Oct. 3, Texas Motor Speedway on Oct. 17, and Martinsville Speedway in Virginia on Oct. 31. Chevrolet will also host a limited number of breast cancer survivors and guests at Talladega and Texas, offering them a fun-filled afternoon at the track. “We are very proud to partner with the American Cancer Society and carry the ACS logo on the pace car during October races,” said Sean Finegan, director, Chevrolet Motorsports Marketing and Activation. “The responses we receive at the tracks are always so positive, and we’re very humbled that we’re able to participate in this cause.” This is the 11th consecutive year Chevrolet has partnered with the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” initiative through dealership walks, national test drive promotions and national service rebate promotions. This is the first application of an available fixed-glass roof on a GM pickup in the full-size truck segment. Designed as an EV from the ground up, the Silverado EV harnesses the best of the Ultium Platform and Silverado’s proven capability. The fleet and retail versions of the electric Silverado will offer customers a variety of options and are expected to be in high demand 2. Popular 6.2L V-8 engine option expands to three more trims: RST, Z71 and Premier For Z71, the new, available electronic limited slip differential helps manage torque and increase driving confidence A new, larger 12.3-inch-diagonal configurable digital instrument cluster now standard on LT trims and above Google Assistant functionality allows drivers to adjust HVAC, control media and more with their voice 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe RST The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban will offer new features and additional technology, including more mechanical options, infotainment improvements and additional standard active safety features. “Tahoe and Suburban customers keep coming back thanks to the capability, space and technology these vehicles bring to every road trip or daily drive,” said Kelly MacDonald, director, Chevrolet Truck Marketing. “Chevrolet keeps innovating with these popular full-size SUVs, and it’s part of the formula that makes them segment leaders.” Expanded 6.2L V-8 engine availability and new eLSD option For customers looking for power, the popular 6.2L V-8 engine rated at 420-horsepower is now available on the RST, Z71 and Premier. The 6.2L engine is standard on the High Country. This engine comes with dual exhaust and features Dynamic Fuel Management technology, designed to optimize engine efficiency across a broad range of driving conditions, including when towing a trailer. When the RST is ordered with the 6.2L V-8, customers also gain Magnetic Ride Control, one of the fastest-reacting damping systems in the industry. Magnetic Ride Control is standard on Premier and High Country and available on Z71. The 5.3L V-8 remains the standard engine on LS, LT, Z71, RST and Premier models. The optional Duramax 3.0L turbo-diesel is available on all models except Z71. All engines are mated to a standard 10-speed automatic transmission with push-button electronic shift. New for 2022, the available electronic limited slip differential draws on sports car DNA to deliver improved driving performance in a full-size SUV. If wheel slip is detected on either side of the vehicle, eLSD reacts quickly to shift power to the wheel with better traction. That additional traction can contribute to increased driver confidence in difficult types of terrain and weather conditions. Available on the off-road focused Z71 trim, eLSD also can be used in 4WD Low to help prevent wheelslip in dirt and mud. Enhanced trailering technology and larger driver information cluster For 2022, Tahoe and Suburban will now offer up to 13 available, unique camera views 1, including a transparent trailer view that helps the driver virtually “see through” a connected, compatible trailer when the truck is properly equipped. Additional new trailering views include a rear trailer view, a picture-in-picture side view, and a view inside a trailer when an accessory camera is connected. A new, larger 12.3-inch-diagonal configurable digital instrument cluster is now standard on 2022 Tahoe and Suburban for LT trims and above. With four user-selectable layouts, this cluster allows drivers to (customize or personalize) display information in the way most comfortable for them during short trips or a long family adventure. Seamless infotainment system with Google built-in compatibility Today’s modern drivers increasingly expect seamless integration between their personal tech and vehicles. With Google built-in, 2 standard on trims LT and above, drivers will have access to Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play right on the vehicle display. This new experience works with Android Auto TM3 and Apple CarPlay 4 capability and offers new levels of customization and flexibility for customers. Rather than connect a smartphone and project onto the center screen, select Google apps and services are integrated into the vehicle’s hardwire. Users have access to Google Assistant, Google Maps, and in-vehicle applications on Google Play. The integration will continue to evolve over time, but 2022 Tahoe and Suburban customers will be able to control vehicle functions by voice or the steering wheel, including: Phone calls and messaging (SMS), when phone paired Audio volume Changing AM/FM radio or SiriusXM channel (subscription required 5) Navigation using Google Maps HVAC The 2022 Tahoe and Suburban will continue to offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. Additional standard active safety features 6 and color choices Safety is an important consideration for many Tahoe and Suburban customers. The 2022 models have two active safety features now standard across all trims: Front and Rear Park Assist and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning. Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning uses a brief, gentle steering wheel turn to alert you when you may be unintentionally drifting out of detected lane lines. It is part of a suite of six standard active safety features called Chevy Safety Assist on every trim for the 2022 Tahoe and Suburban. In addition to Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Chevy Safety Assist also includes: Automatic Emergency Braking Front Pedestrian Braking Forward Collision Alert Following Distance Indicator IntelliBeam auto high beams Buckle to Drive will be a standard feature on the 2022 Tahoe and Suburban to help remind drivers to buckle up before driving. The feature does not allow a shift out of park until the driver and front passenger, if detected, have their seat belts fastened. Buckling a seat belt is among the top ways drivers can protect themselves in a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Additionally, Tahoe and Suburban also will offer new exterior colors: Evergreen Gray Metallic, Auburn Metallic and Dark Ash Metallic. The 2022 Tahoe and Suburban will begin production in October.

In a year that has been filled with manufacturing disruptions, this is great news! General Motors today outlined a comprehensive action plan to ensure that customers can safely and confidently drive, charge, and park the Chevy Bolt EV and EUV. The action plan includes both hardware and software remedies, some of which are in place with immediate effect. “We’re grateful for the patience of owners and dealers as we work to advance solutions to this recall,” said Doug Parks, GM executive vice president, Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain. “Resuming battery module production is a first step and we’ll continue to work aggressively with LG to obtain additional battery supply. In addition, we’re optimistic a new advanced diagnostic software will provide more convenience for our customers.” New battery production LG battery plants in Holland and Hazel Park, Michigan, have resumed production. In addition, LG is adding capacity to provide more cells to GM. As a result, replacement battery modules will begin shipping to dealers as soon as mid-October. The root cause of the rare circumstances that could cause a battery fire is two manufacturing defects known as a torn anode and a folded separator, both of which need to be present in the same battery cell. LG has implemented new manufacturing processes and has worked with GM to review and enhance its quality assurance programs to provide confidence in its batteries moving forward. LG will institute these new processes in other facilities that will provide cells to GM in the future. Prioritized battery replacement GM will continue to prioritize Chevy Bolt EV and EUV customers whose batteries were manufactured during specific build timeframes where GM believes battery defects appear to be clustered. The company has established a notification process that will inform affected customers when their replacement modules will be available. The new batteries will include an extended battery 8-year/100,000-mile limited warranty (or 8-year/160,000 km limited warranty in Canada 1). New advanced diagnostic software Within approximately 60 days, GM will begin launching a new advanced diagnostic software package that will increase the available battery charging parameters over existing guidance.The diagnostic software will be designed to detect specific abnormalities that might indicate a damaged battery in Bolt EVs and EUVs by monitoring the battery performance; alerting customers of any anomalies; and prioritizing damaged battery modules for replacement. It is GM’s intent that further diagnostic software will allow customers to return to a 100 percent state of charge once all diagnostic processes are complete.This new software, which will be provided to all Bolt EV and EUV owners, requires dealer installation. Owners will be able to start to schedule installation at their Chevy EV dealer in approximately 60 days. Updated guidance on parking If customers are following GM’s instructions issued below, they can park in a location of their choice. In an abundance of caution, GM recommends customers leave ample space around their vehicle wherever they choose to park. GM is not aware of any fires that have occurred where customers followed this safety guidance, in parking decks or otherwise.GM’s instructions remain: Set the vehicle to a 90 percent state of charge limitation using Target Charge Level mode. Instructions on how to do this are available on chevy.com/boltevrecall. If customers are unable to successfully make these changes or do not feel comfortable making these changes, GM is asking them to visit their dealer to have these adjustments completed. Charge the vehicle more frequently and avoid depleting battery below approximately 70 miles (113 km) of remaining range, where possible. Continue to park vehicles outside immediately after charging and do not leave vehicles charging indoors overnight.
