Trim Levels

The Volt is a five-passenger hatchback that comes in just two different trim levels. The LT is the base model and has 17-inch wheels, low-rolling resistance tires, LED headlights and taillights, front recovery hooks, and keyless entry. Add the Comfort package for heated side mirrors, or choose the Premier trim where they come standard. The Premier also comes with different 17-inch wheels.

Engine

Both of the Volt trims come with a 1.5-liter gas engine that also works as a generator. The engine works along with two electric motors and provides a total of 149 horsepower and 294 pound-feet of torque. An 18.4-kWh lithium-ion-battery pack charges the motors.

Performance

The Volt has an all-electric range of 53 miles. Drivers can choose between normal mode, sport mode, and hold mode to make the most of the conditions. The hold mode will maintain the current charge in the battery making it more efficient, and there is also a mountain mode for those who live in hilly areas. This will keep the car from charging the battery all the way up so you can use the regenerative braking when you go down the hills. The Volt is one of the smoothest riding plug-in hybrids on the road. It accelerates smoothly and offers seamless transitions from gas to electric power. The gas engine will get it up to 60 miles per hour in 7.5-seconds, and the electric power will get it there in just 7.8 seconds.

Interior

Inside the Volt, you'll find comfortable seats and room for up to five passengers. Chevy uses high-quality materials in the cabin, and you can upgrade the interior of the LT with the Comfort Package to add a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel and heated front seats. If you choose the Premier, this all comes standard, along with heated rear seats. For technology, you'll get an 8-inch color touch-screen display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two USB ports, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. The Premier adds wireless charging, an upgraded eight-speaker Bose stereo system, and offers the option for navigation as part of the Driver Confidence 2 package.

Safety Features

Both the LT and Premier trims come standard with a rearview camera, and both offer the option for the Driver Confidence Package which adds blind spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Premier trim adds an automated parking system and offers the option for the more advanced Driver Confidence 2 Package with more safety features. This comes with forward collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic low-speed emergency braking, lane keep assist, and adaptive headlights. Additional options with the Driver Confidence 2 package include adaptive cruise control and an upgraded emergency braking system.
