Trim Levels

The front-wheel drive Sonic sedan comes in three trim levels, LS, LT, and Premier, and you can choose between a four-door sedan or five-door hatchback and a six-speed automatic or manual transmission for each trim level. Both the sedan and hatchback have the 1.4L turbocharged Ecotec four-cylinder engine. The 2019 hatchback is offered in the LT and Premier trim levels. The LS trim level features StabiliTrak and Traction control systems. Rear-vision cameras, built-in hotspot technology, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system are also part of the Sonic's extensive list of features. Sonic's LT trim adds sporty 15-inch painted wheels and heated outside mirrors. The LT gets an upgraded six-speaker sound system. Upgrade to the Premier trim for plenty of added comfort and technology innovations, like 17-inch alloy wheels, leather seats, an enhanced infotainment system, keyless remote start, and a heated steering wheel.

Engine

Chevrolet replaced the Sonic's base engine, a 1.8L naturally aspirated engine, to the sportier 1.4L turbocharger. Choose the six-speed manual transmission for more fun on the road or the six-speed automatic for more convenience. The 1.4L turbocharged Ecotec four-cylinder delivers 138 horsepower and a hefty 148 pound-feet of torque. The small displacement power-dense four-cylinder engine provides an aggressive driving experience. The new Sonic also comes with various weight reducing technologies to improve its handling. The engine block and camshafts are formed with hollow frame construction. The turbocharger was developed with attention to throttle response and low-end torque.

Performance

When it comes to performance, the 2019 Sonic delivers. Both the sedan and hatchback models deliver excellent gas mileage of 26 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway, and the Sonic's increased torque rating provides its energy across a broad RPM range. The Sonic has spirited acceleration and excellent highway cruising.

Interior

Both models offer plenty of storage space, but if you need extra room, choose the hatchback version, which offers 47.7 cubic feet of cargo space.
