Engine (Power)

Most trims of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse come with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that offers 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. FWD offers 18 miles per gallon in the city and 27 on miles per gallon on the highway, while the numbers drop a bit on the AWD: 17 in the city and 25 on the highway. However, the RS trim comes with a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine, and despite being much lighter, the engine manages 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Combined with exclusive FWD and nine-speed automatic transmission, the turbo engine gives the Traverse 20 miles per gallon in the city and 26 on the highway.

Performance

Chevy engineers designed the 2018 Traverse to be a family vehicle. The smooth suspension levels out plenty of the bumps in the road, and Chevrolet's advanced steering system makes the Traverse feel like a much smaller vehicle when it comes to navigating down narrow lanes. Both engines also come with a start-stop system, which means the Traverse will shut off the engine when you come to a complete stop and start back up as soon as you touch the accelerator.

Interior

The cargo area of the 2018 Chevy Traverse starts out with 23 cubic feet behind the furthest rear row for luggage, groceries, and anything else you need to pack, and once you fold down the two rear rows, you get 98.2 cubic feet overall. The second row can either be a bench or a pair of captain's chairs, dropping the passenger count from eight to seven, and all three rows have a decent amount of space despite being a midsize crossover. Tri-zone automatic climate control is a standard feature on every trim, and if you want more, higher trim levels come with a Bose 10-speaker system, leather upholstery, heated front and second-row seats, and more.

Safety Features

The 2018 Traverse comes with an air bag system: front, front center, side impact, and head curtain air bags. The unique front-center bag deploys during certain kinds of side collisions. Other standard features include five years of OnStar Basic, StabiliTrak, and a rear seat reminder so you do not leave anything behind. Higher trims also get driver assistance features.
