<p>Most trim levels of the 2018 Chevrolet Malibu come with a small, but potent, 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo engine that offers 163 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Its standard transmission's a six-speed automatic that helps the Malibu get 27 miles per gallon in the city and 36 on the highway. However, the Premier comes with a 2.0-liter engine that boosts the numbers to 250 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. </p><p>A nine-speed automatic, this trim has greater efficiency and gets 26 miles per gallon in the city and 33 on the highway. But if you'd rather have ultimate efficiency, the Malibu Hybrid comes with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder and an electric motor that gets a net 124 horsepower to the tune of 49 miles per gallon in the city and 43 on the highway.</p>
Performance
Efficiency is important to the 2018 Malibu since it's a commuter car and a family vehicle, which's why even the performance engine offers more than 30 miles per gallon on the highway. It's also important to have the speed to keep up in highway traffic, which is why the hybrid engine has enough power and acceleration to merge and pass on the highway.
